Look for a review of the 5009 to be posted by Sound & Vision. Currently only available to subscribers, its positive with bench test results so you may want to link it for your thread.

Here is a snipped of the upcoming review by Sound & Vision on the SR5009

" The Marantz SR5009 is a solidly engineered surround receiver with an inherently good-sounding amp and the kind of room correction that takes the amp to the next level. The multiple presences of Wi-Fi, Air-Play and Bluetooth are necessary concessions to the way people listen now, though this receiver also accommodates old-fashioned disk-spinning listeners with the kind of performance that makes a hard-copy music library worthwhile. Once, I came this close to adopting a somewhat beefier Marantz as my reference receiver. The brand's reputation for delivering great sound continues to be well earned."

Downloading a new update for my SR6009. Here's hoping it sorts out the network issues.

Edit-
Update Installed - found a few new options, like add feature in the update firmware section. No options as of now for that. Update took about 20 minutes to download and install. Firmware is now 1500-5101-3040, not sure what it was before, but if someone wants to check its under General > Information > Firmware.

Also, installed my new OSX Yosemite update, did a bit of poking around and it seems that there have been known WiFi issues with that regarding streaming of content. So, update that and low and behold, I have been able to play full album with no skipping. Seamless playback! Hurray! However, that does not really address why my iPhone via AirPlay would do the same thing, that had nothing to do with my MacBookPro. Oh well, perhaps the firmware update will help!
No glitching during playback or weird green overlays like I was getting before either.

Cant find any publication from Marantz about what was updated. I am interested. Happy they released an update tho, I was a few hours away from returning the 6009 and getting a 7008.

When I go run errands, I'll check SiriusXM, I had a issue with it changing stations and getting serve disconnected. Hard to say if that is on my end, my ISPs or Sirius's end, but I'll leave it running for a few hours while I run errands and hope it still on the same station.

I hope so to. I have seen some strange things happen with networks. What is your router and have you tried re-booting it?

Two hours gone and played SiriusXM with no issues, came home and was still playing on the same channel. AirPlay still working fine!
I am happy, my AVR seems to be working perfectly now.

Great! Glad it seems to be working. I plan on streaming from music stored on my NAS so this is good news.

How's the sound quality? This will be my first Marantz product and selected it for their well know musical sound reputation.

Sound quality is great. I mostly listen to 192-320 kbps ripped MP3, some FLAC, the occasional CD and SiriusXM which is AAC.
The receiver makes everything sound great. I have a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 6' and a Silver Center, but for music I put it in 2.0 and listen that way. It really makes music sound great. The speakers and the receiver do a good job of letting you know when music is in a lossy crappy format, thats forsure, haha.

Still having some random issues with freezing on the AVR even after the update, but the menus seem faster and less glitching. I can play full albums if I let them change tracks on there own, but sometimes when I change them in iTunes it will freeze up. Nothing a soft reset ( power cable for a few minutes out wont fix) When that happens, it seems like all network stuff goes down. AirPlay glitches up. cant get iRadio or AirPlay to work either.

More tweaking to come, but it is better and way more usable than it was before.

had the SR5009 for about a month now, and have had the unit freeze up twice now. The only thing that resolves it is unplugging power and plugging it back in. Firmware is up to date, no buttons work on the remote or the front panel at all.

Not impressed with my first Marantz unit at all. Left Yamaha over quality control issues, but at least those would last a few years before giving me grief.

What do you mean by freeze up! Does this only happen with streaming etc.....

Great news about the sound quality but not to good on the streaming. Supposed to receive mine Friday. I guess I'll see how it goes.

both times it has happened in the last couple of weeks. Watching TV with an Arris cable box connected via HDMI, grab the remote to try and adjust volume, volume doesn't move. Try changing input on the receiver, or using any other button for that matter, nothing happens. Change channel on the DVR, sound disappears completely, but video is still passing through. I then have to unplug the power from the receiver, and plug back in to get anything to happen.

I've had issues before with stuttering video, but setting the unit to bypass any video processing seems to have corrected that. Not something I really wanted to do, but it worked. This isn't something I can correct, nor accept from a $900 receiver that is designed to do exactly what I do with it on a daily basis.

I have ordered SR 5009 back here in India. It is going to be delivered today and keeping my fingers crossed (especially after reading few freezing up issues)... hoping it would sound better than my existing Yamaha HTR-3066 AVR. will be pairing it up with pioneer andrew jones designed speakers and yamaha subwoofer.

Was having exact issue noted above with my Denon x-400. Sent it back and now I am researching new receivers. Had planned to pick up the 5009 or 6009 but now I am nervous. These are made by same parent company and I mostly stream music. I hoped to blame previous problems on my router (FIOS red actiontec) but now I am thinking it is their software/network card. Anyone using Pandora to stream with without issue? Thanks guys

I have had a Denon X4000 for well over a year and never had a problem with streaming or lock ups. I've used Air Play, Internet Radio and files from a DLnA network attached storage.

I don't know if the problems with these new receivers are hardware based or software based (firmware upgrade should fix if software). I have read on other D&M units having similar lockup problems.
Got my fingers crossed.

Bought my 5009 last Friday and it took me until Sunday to get it to pass anything through the hdmi. Learned about the hard reset on the other thread and video came in immediately then I had to redo the audio setup and it has been working perfectly since then. Sound quality is fantastic.

i got the new sr5009 today. It had a firmware update and I updated it as well. Now all working fine except audio dropping out for a second while watching anything through my Blu ray player. Any fix or anybody knew the solution for this?

Hey everyone, just bought the SR5009 last night, haven't had time to hook it up yet. In light of all the locking up and misc. issues I have been reading about, would you guys recommend I just do a microprocessor reset right off the bat before even configuring the unit?

Secondly, do both the SR5009 and SR6009 use the same DAC? The Magnolia rep said the DAC in these two are the same but the SR7009 has an upgraded one. Not sure if this is correct and wanted your opinion.

Thanks!

Hitting iPod/USB with nothing should display it waiting for a source.
Online Music gives you Pandora, Sirius, Internet Radio, Media Sever and a few others.
Bluetooth should give you some connection options.

Is your network setup?
Have you updated to the newest firmware?

When you push info or option, do you see anything?
Is your TV getting a picture or is nothing showing up.

All my video sources are working. Cable/sat, game, and blueray all work fine.

When I press online music or Internet radio screen goes black. Internet radio starts playing and the only info I have is through the front port hole. Pressing info does nothing. Pressing options works through the front port hole.

I did get the latest firmware right after I fired everything up for the first time.

Have you tried a "soft reset"? I.e. try unplugging the receiver from the wall power for about 10 minutes.
If that doesn't help, try doing a microprocessor reset as described in the owner's manual.

Video Conversion needs to be on for the informational displays to be seen. If you're seeing the overlays with some types of input, it's probably already enabled, but double-check anyhow.

i also tried all, but the sound drop is still there. It is ok if i play music via USB on my receiver or I play TV audio. It's only with anything directly connected to the AVR via HDMI (blu ray/ cable). Seems to be HDMI board issue ? just one day receiver

It is playing well if all inputs are connected to TV (bluray/d2h) and only the ARC going to ARC port in AVR. It is only if i connect the blu ray or d2h directly to AVR, then there is sound drops.

assuming there might be HDMI board issue (though the ARC HDMI working fine), not sure if they would change the board or would they give a replacement. If they would probably talk about changing the board, i would rather not send it and live with the word around option that I am having right now.

personally i want all to be routed through TV however, it's sound drop when connected directly is still bugging me

I think my unit is defective.
Tech support from accessories4less had me check a few things including The video conversion setting that was suggested also by member welden ball. Tried the push on the back by the HDMI connector trick as mentioned by JDsmoothie in another thread but no luck. Accessories4less is going to call Marantz on Monday but don't really know what they can do. If it don't work there's no hidden setting that's going to make it work.
