DTS:X SURROUND announced for the home market

Let's post info as we get it on speaker layout, speaker type, etc??

Will they use Atmos speakers?

CES should be great!

DTS has officially revealed its own object-based audio technology. Dubbed DTS:X, the new codec will launch in March of next year and will serve as the next-generation successor to DTS-HD Master Audio.

No. It's a hardware upgrade. New chips in the cheap stuff. But for THE BLAND he can upgrade software

Not sure if that is possible with the Datasat?!

Awesome looking forward in reading about there speaker layout etc. I'm glad I've waited and I have a feeling most Blu Rays will go this direction especially the studios that are loyal to DTS.

Most of the cheap AVR use a dedicated silicon chip, probably the ones made before DTS X won't do it. All new AVR will include it is my guess.

The high end stuff uses a different approach, so a software upgrade on something like a Datasat or Trinov should be fine.

Yes. The Atmos card / firmware update is slated for release in March, 2015 and there is plenty of expansion space on the RS-20i for DTS. That said, a software upgrade, rather than chip, would be fantastic!

Yeah, keep me posted. Intersting, exciting times!!

It would be wack for DTS to come out with a surround mode not available on their flagship ssp. Fingers crossed for you Jeff!

Not really. The main reason blu-rays are DTS-HD is because the DTS encoder is faster than the Dolby one. And time is money for the studios who have to pay someone while the audio and video are finalized.

It's one area where Dolby has acknowledged they screwed up. Big time.

Studios are loyal to whomever lets them push out the discs the fastest. If the Atmos encoder is faster and easier to use than the DTS one, it'll switch around easily. That said, it's better that we have both than we have only one of them.

The major audio brands have already committed to DTS-X..
DTS will have a demo @ the CES 2015 show in Las Vegas next week..
But basic availability for hardware is about 1 year away, as higher resource DSPs are required and compatible DTS-X software needs to be available..
DTS beat out Dolby for the Blu-ray audio standard (DTS Master Audio) but for the object based format, the Dolby Atmos has gotten a head start...
But then again, Dolby has more resources than DTS and deeper $ pockets..

Just my $0.02...

I agree. The studios sure haven't embraced Atmos. Are there even 5 titles?

Let's not be so quick to limit ourselves to a few Atmos titles, I want both or shall we say 3 (Auro) And this time I better not need to get a new pre/pro till Audyssey or whoever does 196/24 and DSD

Indeed. I was waiting for HDMI 2.0 / HDCP 2.2 to resolve itself by next year anyways - but this pretty much seals it for me. I can't wait to see what they have to offer!

Yes, DTS:X is the go to market name.

Also, nobody got "screwed," the early adopters especially here should have known that DTS was pending and that it most likely was not possible to be software upgradeable for current Atmos only AVRs.

You all only "screwed" yourselves with your need for instant gratification.

What is kind of interesting is that in a very early press release of DTS they announce DMS as their partner to develop the MDA format.
DMS is the company behind Stormaudio which also developed the first Auro receiver, but in the recent announcement nothing of Stormaudio can be seen.

We heard all these same lame comments when Dolby digital and original DTS launched... And again when HDmaster and Dolby True did.

It's takes some time, but only an idiot is going to believe more titles won't come. If there's no value in just 4 titles do like smart people do and just wait a bit until the value proposition improves enough to warrant a purchase. The negativity just makes people look like a Debbie Downer
