Trouble with Marantz 1403

Recently having problems with the on/off button on the remote. I click 'off' and the unit turns off, but then turns on again. This may occur, or may not, and it may occur 5 seconds later or 15 minutes later. Also, sometimes if I cannot get it to stay off, I press 'Mute' and it mutes, or sometimes it goes completely off.

This happens most of the time. Whats up? Anyone else have this happen? My 1403 is about 1 1/2--2 yrs old.

Thanks for any help.

Regards, Rich

You know, hadn't thought of changing out the batteries until right after my post. So I changed them and so far (1 hr) the unit has not turned itself back on. I am mystified re: how weak batteries could cause this....
