Help choosing receiver

First let me start by apologizing if I sound stupid. I am not good with home audio.

I purchased a home theater system a looong time ago. It came with a jvc 5.1 receiver, 2 boxes with 2 15" speakers in each and a horn tweeter in each. Also 3 surround speakers. The receiver died years ago and I bought a pioneer receiver to replace it. It sounds nothing like it did with the jvc receiver. It had good bass, now it doesn't really.

Is there a certain receiver I should be looking for to power the 4 15" speakers? Leave me know if there's other info needed to help me with this. I have tried to find the same jvc receiver with no luck.

Maybe list the model number of the speakers or post a photo so that we have an idea of what you're talking about.
