I find the open screw type are best at the wall as the wire goes down. The closed screw are better at the receiver as the wire goes straight out the back. YMMV.
I prefer this style of connector (though mine are Monster, no longer made). Very clean, pretty easy to assemble, and if you cut the insulation diligently, nothing exposed.
Closed screw are definitely the best for the receiver end. Open screw is better at the speaker end if you don't have room for the wire sticking straight out or don't like the look. Otherwise I like the closed screw. The closed screw are more difficult to get the wire secured, but not a huge deal IMO.
Really? The ones I use, simply feed the wire (16awg or better) through, splay it out around the shaft, screw the tip on. Done, secured. Easier than making a PBJ sandwich.
