Denon AVR-X3100W vs Marantz SR5009 vs Yamaha RX-A830

Hello All,
I am trying to decide on a new receiver. My 3007 Onkyo is inneed of its 3 or 4 HDMI board, I can’t remember, so I am going to kiss itgoodbye. I would like to spend ~$500 or less. All three of the mentionedreceivers can be had around that price from places such as Accessories 4 Less.

Background: I have a 7.1 HT system with a separate 3 ch ampto run the FL, C and FR channels so I don’t think that I will need huge powerbut preouts are a must. I have a dual 2 channel music/HT system where I feedall of my music from a NAS to a Music computer. As a result, I don’t streammusic (Spotify, etc..) but my wife might like to if we had the capability. Icurrently don’t use my Audyssey features as I don’t really like the way itmakes my system sound.

What is important to me is making my movies sound good andhaving good video processing so that the movie picture looks good. With thesethings in mind is there one of the receivers in the title that is a clear winner?I see subtle differences between the three but it is not clear to me that oneis much better than the other. I like the Marantz for its supposed smooth warmsound and “audiophile” roots. The Yamahaseems to have a nice mix of features but I read in a review or two that theirvideo processing my not be up to par. I am considering the denon mainly becauseit is a current mode and has wi-fi built in. I am also considering MarantzSR6008 but I don’t see a huge benefit going from 5009 to 6008. I wouldappreciate peoples input.

Thanks, Garth

Input appreciated

Still hoping for input from those in the know. I read on another thread that the Yamaha RX-A830 has a global sub crossover frequency which is less than desirable. Not all of my speakers are the same size so I don't cross them over all at the same frequency. Therefore, this is a knock on the Yammy. Any other important points I should know?

Thanks, Garth

Both the X3100W and SR5009 will allow you to set independent speaker crossovers. The SR5009 is the sister model to the X2100W so the X3100W will have more features than the SR5009, although audio quality will be very similar. 2CH music listeners generally prefer a Marantz for the HDAM pre-amps over the comparable Denon model.

Reliability on both D+M models would be the same.
