I do not know what that means since I do not use an iPhone. On the iPad, I use both the Marantz Remote App and DeRemote to control the 1605.

Yes on Bluetooth. The receiver would recognize the ipad it would show the pairing numbers and I would go ahead with the pairing but after a few seconds would come back unsuccessful telling me to make sure the Marantz is on(something like that).

I thought so. Unfortunately I don't have any i products or that receiver, but hopefully Kal or
someone can troubleshoot that ipad. What is the model of that tablet? I have used add-on
bluetooth modules like this with great success. Most support either 2 or 8 devices. And I
noticed that none of the new stereos use the newest/best versions 3 or 4 w/aptx bluetooth.

Sorry. I don't use bluetooth for anything except in my car.

Don't blame you. Even the aptx stuff is nothing like usb/airplay quality.

I am still wired at home. I use wireless only for remote control, not for signals.
