12v sense versus auto for 2 channel

Hi - I'm adding a 2 channel amp for my ceiling channel and wondering if I should spend the $ bucks for one with a 12V sense to turn on. I've heard that the auto-on (sense presence of audio signals) sometimes turn off when they shouldn't. any thoughts?

I prefer a 12 V trigger or use of a power strip that senses the other components. Sometimes auto works just great, but too often IME it is either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. Very aggravating when the amp cuts out when the movie or music gets soft, or when I mute the system to take a phone call and the amp or sub drops out.
