Question Replacing Denon791, should I try a 7.2 AVR?

So my Denon has been having some HDMI pass thru issues, it is about 5 years old in my HT. I have duel subs running on the one port and was thinking about getting a true .2 unit that could run both subs independently. Not really sure if this is a big deal or not? Running them independently is a big difference? Right now the subs can get booming at times.

I am looking at the Yamaha 840/850 models but was wondering if getting a lower Yamaha model with 7.2 mono is going to be adequate. TheAVR is only used to watch movies and some sports/gaming. Never really used this dedicated HT to just listen to music.

I would love to know your thoughts. The 840 can be picked up on Amazon for $580 but a 775 can be had at costco for $400. From the problems with the Denon, I am going to go back to the workhorse Yamaha at this point

I appreciate all the input.

In most cases an AVR with dual sub pre-outs (esp if < $1000) is simply using an internal "Y" splitter cable as opposed to the external cable you are using now. You would have to step up to the Yamaha A2040 for true independent dual sub control.

"JD" - Sales - Call 585-645-1006 for setup and pricing discussion 8am - 8pm EST daily
Authorized dealer: Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Onkyo, Def Tech, Atl Tech, Parasound, Oppo

Think you have a defective AVR? Owner's manual - Factory reset 4-5 times in a row.
