If a surround-sound installation demands a low-key approach and compact equipment, Nevada-based Artison has an elegant solution in the form of its new Nano Backpack P5 processor/amp. A prototype of the lifestyle audio-oriented P5 was shown at CEDIA 2015 and dealers were invited to offer their feedback, which was incorporated into the final design that will debut at CEDIA 2016.
The Artison Nano Backpack P5, a tiny 5.1 surround processor/amp.
The Nano Backpack P5 is a thin, ultra-compact audio hub that is so slender can be mounted on a wall, in a wall, or behind a display. It can also sit on a shelf thanks to its good looks. This 5.1-channel processor contains high-quality class-D amps and offers 100 watts per channel for L/C/R and 50 watts per channel for the two surround channels. How small is it? Dimensions are 1.1" (high) x 11.7" (wide) x 11.7" (deep).
The processor handles Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby ProLogic II/IIx decoding and features internal 2.4/5.8 GHz antennas for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. Physical inputs include three HDMI ports, Toslink, 3.5mm stereo minijack, and RJ45. The HDMI output supports ARC, CED, 3D, and UHD/4K pass-through (there's no mention of HDR support).
Additional Backpack P5 features include an intuitive on-screen display/GUI, an IR remote control, and IP-control with either an Ethernet or a Wi-Fi connection.
In the press release, Cary Christie, president and founder of Artison, noted that "The Nano Backpack P5 is just the beginning in a series of Artison products that deliver high-performance audio without overpowering a room’s aesthetics."
Artison plans to ship the Nano Backpack P5 December 2016 with a MSRP of $1200.
