SQ wise from Denon - Older 3311/3312 vs newer 920/X3100?

From a purely sound quality standpoint - crispness, clarity, noise-free, soundstage, tight low end, etc. - how do the newer Denon receivers like 920/X3100 compare to the older Denon receivers like 3311/3312?

Identical.

With the exception of "noise-free", the attributes you've listed are all functions determined by the speakers and their interaction with the room, not the electronics. With respect to noise in contemporary SS electronics, it is many 1000's of times (>50dB) below audibility.

The only actual sound quality differences possible would be due to the Audyssey implementation, however all of these units run MultEQ XT (AFAIK). Edit: Refer JD's post below. With Audyssey's EQ enabled, you can reasonably expect improved performance from units with MultEQ XT, due to the greater number of measurement positions and greater filter resolution. (http://www.audyssey.com/technologies/multeq/flavors.) Without EQ enabled: no difference.

You'll have determined about 99% of the sound you're going to hear simply by choosing your speakers and placing them in your room.

The older 3311CI/3312CI and newer X3100W all use Audyssey MultEQ XT whereas the lower level S920W only uses MultEQ so would not be at the same level sound quality wise; however, you would be much better served upgrading to either a 2016 X3300W or 2015 X4200W both of which use the much more advanced Audyssey MultEQ XT32.
