The AVENTAGE Advantage
Craftsmanship in engineering design. The AVENTAGE line of high-performance AV receivers is based on the audio design concept of providing a massive, full-bodied sound for movie sound effects and the accurate reproduction of music sources. By expertly harmonizing traditional and advanced technologies, every factor that affects sound quality, from materials and parts to construction, layout, vibration damping (unique foot) and “fine-tuning” the sound, is handled with no other thought than to achieve the best possible audio quality. As a result, every AVENTAGE model has the ability to reproduce the most subtle details of high-definition sound, so that listeners can enjoy a truly high-class sound studio experience at home.

Total Purity
Enjoy fine sound quality. The Total Purity Concept, which Yamaha has been cultivating for many years, encompasses high drive amp technology, high purity preamplification, anti-vibration technology and independent pure power supplies. All models have fully discrete power amplifiers that help minimize distortion. They also adopt pure independent power supplies, allowing dedicated power supplies for the analog and digital circuitry to prevent digital noise from affecting analog circuitry. The anti-vibration heat sinks are designed to suppress vibration from transistors and sound pressure. Independent power supplies for the DACs are designed to further eliminate noise on certain models. Down to every detail, these AV receivers are designed with full emphasis on the highest possible sound quality.

High Quality Parts for Optimum Performance
The whole is greater than the sum. Every single part in an AV receiver affects the sound quality. For AVENTAGE models, extra time is taken to find (or develop) the exact parts needed to achieve the highest performance possible. Sound technicians go through a testing process to, in effect, “tune” the receiver’s sound.

ESS SABRE PRO Premier DAC™ ES9026PRO
Our flagship RX-A3070 model features ESS’s state of the art 32-bit SABRE PRO Premier DAC ES9026PRO. ESS’s patented 32-bit Hyper Stream, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) compensation fun32-bit beast-mode. Our flagship RX-A3070 model features ESS’s state of the art 32-bit SABRE PRO Premier DAC ES9026PRO. ESS’s patented 32-bit Hyper Stream, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) compensation function works to minimize noise levels. In combination with the Yamaha original D.O.P.G. (DAC On Pure Ground) concept, which eliminates the potential difference between audio circuit stages to reduce ground noise, it dramatically enhances silence and resolution over the entire audio range for rich and expressive reproduction of even the most delicate sounds.

XLR Input
The RX-A3070 comes equipped with XLR balanced audio input terminal that have an outstanding reputation in the world of professional audio and are highly sensitive to noise in the mix. In combination with a Blu-ray Disc™ playBalanced audio. The receiver comes equipped with an XLR balanced audio input terminals. In combination with a Blu-ray Disc™ player such as our BD-A1060, or CD player such as our CD-S3000 / S2100 equipped with balanced output terminals, this enables high-quality signal transmission with reduced degradation of sound quality due to external noise. The balanced input terminals feature gold-plated connections produced by Neutrik, a company with a long history of experience working with Yamaha mixing consoles.

Symmetrical Power Amplifier
Designed to the details. The interior of the unit has been precisely planned, circuit-routed and built so that the left and right channels are physically and electrically isolated. This naturally maximizes channel separation but also greatly improves signal to noise ratio and also helps to achieve a wide open sound stage for a superior receiver.

Anti-Resonance Technology Foundation
A firm foundation. The Anti-Resonance Technology Wedge is a fifth foot in the center of the unit. It dampens vibrations from the power transformer, power transistors and heat sinks, as well as vibrations that might be caused by the sound from the speakers.

Advanced Design Feet
Foot fetish. The feet of the receiver feature a newly designed, high-density structure which utilizes two different kinds of interior ribs — straight and curved — to enhance strength and damping performance. Installation stability is improved and chassis resonance is dispersed, effectively eliminating external vibration. The low-range response is enhanced, while resonance peaks in the mid- and high-range are reduced, providing dynamic sound and accurate reproduction.

Aluminum Front Panel
Shielded from noise. All of the AVENTAGE components feature the same sleek, clean design, with an elegant aluminum front panel and silky touch volume/selector knobs. The aluminum front panel is used to effectively shield sensitive circuitry from external noise and electronic radiation generated by dimmer switches, fluorescent lighting, video monitors and so on. This ensures optimum sonic performance in the widest range of installation environments.

H-shaped Frame
Reinforced for rigidity. The interior of the receiver is reinforced with cross members in an H shape to provide an extremely rigid and stable frame. This reduces chassis vibration to virtually zero even during high volume output (seemingly minor vibrations can affect the sound), maintaining the highest audio quality.

4K Ultra HD Full Support
Darker blacks, whiter whites, and more vivid colors. This AV receiver completely supports with latest HDMI® standards. Thanks to transmission of 4K video at 60 frames per second pass-through, you can fully enjoy the high definition video quality of 4K without degradation. It also adheres to the HDCP 2.2 copyright protection standard for 4K video transmission. It also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) Video including Dolby Vision and Hybrid Log-Gamma which provides incredible contrast, smooth tone and rich, bright colors. Furthermore it supports the wider color gamut of BT.2020 pass-through. This AV receiver is also compatible with 3D, Audio Return Channel and CEC for easy operation. *Dolby Vision and Hybrid Log-Gamma will be available via future firmware update.

Enhanced CINEMA DSP HD3
Thrilling realism in surround sound. With this year marking thirty years since the release of the first DSP-1 unit in 1986, Yamaha has continued its history of innovation with the development of the Enhanced next-generation CINEMA DSP. This sound field program is installed in the receiver and features a new sound field processing algorithm that further elevates its ability to process the motion and spatial representation data found in the latest audio-visual media. This includes three-dimensional surround formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The result is a natural sound field effect that follows every sound source, including objects present in the most modern formats and delivers dynamic sensations of motion and spatiality.

It is also compatible with high-resolution audio codecs such as DSD/AIFF/FLAC/WAV/Apple® Lossless. You will enjoy the excellent sound quality of these various high-resolution audio codecs from the USB input on the front panel or from network connected devices.

Advanced HDMI® Zone Switching
Full video and audio capability in second zone. While standard HDMI zone switching can only send HD video programs to the main and second zones, advanced HDMI® zone switching from Yamaha adds the capability to choose from all audio and video sources for playback in Zone 2*. An on-screen graphical user interface makes it easy to browse and select content to enjoy from the second zone no matter what is being played in the Main Zone. *The second HDMI output can be assigned to Zone 4 as well (HDMI inputs only).

Zone Extra Bass
Even more lows. Use the Extra Bass feature to amplify bass tones, not just in your main room but also on systems in other rooms (Zones 2 and 3). Even with compact or in-wall speakers which typically lack bass, you’ll hear all your sources with powerful bass sound.

Zone Volume Equalizer
Zone 2 control. Automatically adjusts bass and treble balance to match the volume on systems in other rooms (Zone 2 and 3). Enjoy movies and music with a natural sound quality balance even at low volumes.

Intelligent Amp Assign
Intelligent design meets multizone audio. Intelligent Amp Assign automatically assigns amplifier channels to certain speakers, depending on what speaker layout is selected. For example, in a 9.1-channel system, when Zone 2 is turned off, all 9.1-channels will be used in the Main Zone. However, when Zone 2 is powered on, the power to the two surround back channels will automatically be redirected to the two speakers in Zone 2 and the Main Zone will receive 7.1-channels of power. Similarly, when CINEMA DSP 3D is on, the two Front Presence speakers will be powered and not the two surround back speakers. When CINEMA DSP 3D is off, this situation is reversed. Thanks to Intelligent Amp Assign, there’s no need to switch the speaker cables on the rear of the AV receiver.

Extra-convenient SCENE PLUS
Save your favorites. The SCENE PLUS function simplifies operation by providing one touch power-on along with selection of the desired source and the appropriate DSP programs. SCENE PLUS offers a choice of 12 SCENE selections, four of which can be assigned to the second zone in a multi-zone system. SCENE PLUS can be selected from the front panel, remote control, GUI and even from the AV Controller App

YPAO™ - R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control with 3D, 64-bit Precision EQ, and Angle Measurement)
Sound optimized. YPAO-R.S.C. analyzes the room acoustics with the included YPAO microphone to tune your system for the best sound in your unique room. It employs R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) to correct early reflections for studio-quality surround sound. YPAO 3D provides automatic sound parameter optimization that maximizes the 3D sound field effectiveness of CINEMA DSP HD3 as well as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. 64-bit precision EQ calculation achieves the most natural room acoustics possible. Additionally, DSP Effect Normalization adjusts the room acoustics according to the reflected sounds of each CINEMA DSP program.

YPAO Volume
Still hear everything. Human ears have less sensitivity to high and low frequencies, especially at lower volumes. YPAO Volume applies loudness EQ correction to automatically adjust high and low frequency levels as volume changes. Using the YPAO measurement results, EQ correction is optimized to your system settings and listening environment

Rich Bass Reproduction
Feel your lows. This exclusive low-range enhancement technology delivers richer bass than you would expect from smaller sized speakers while maintaining good localization and sound balance even with compact front speakers. When a subwoofer is used, it improves the volume of the entire low range of the speaker system, not only the front speakers, but also enhancing the bass from the subwoofer. You'll enjoy video and music with sound that has exceptional power and presence.

Subwoofer Trim
Improved sound imaging. The Subwoofer Trim Control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. This will result in a cleaner, more focused soundstage while providing a seamless frequency response. When subwoofer frequency overlap occurs in conventional systems, the overall sound is “pushed” toward the subwoofer. Subwoofer Trim Control takes care of this by separating the low subwoofer frequencies cleanly, thus stabilizing the front stage while providing a well-balanced enhanced bass sound.

Compressed Music Enhancer
Hear more. When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. The Compressed Music Enhancer from Yamaha employs sophisticated digital signal processing using exclusive algorithms to restore what was lost, so the music always sounds the way it should.

High-resolution Music Enhancer
Hear even more. Hi-bit high-sampling extension up to 96 kHz / 24-bit can be applied to lossless 44.1 / 48 kHz content such as from a CD (2-channel PCM) or a FLAC file for further heightening of the musicality in the original content.

Gapless Playback
No intermissions. Many live and classical albums have no gaps in the music. Gapless playback ensures that there are no pauses between audio files. This provides playback with no interruptions, the way it was meant to be heard. *Compatible with WAV, FLAC and ALAC file formats, and input from USB/PC/NAS.

DSP Adjustment
Create sound fields at home. This AV receiver is equipped with a variety of sound programs that utilize original DSP technologies from Yamaha. These sound programs allow you to easily create sound fields like actual movie theaters or concert halls in your room to enjoy natural stereoscopic sound fields. It is now possible to use the AV Controller App to adjust the DSP parameters in a basic or advanced mode to match the mood of your favorite movie or music album.

Front USB iDevice Connection
iCompatibility. A USB port on the front panel allows convenient connection of an iPod® and iPhone®, which also charges the iOS device when connected. Because the digital signal from the iPod and iPhone is transmitted directly to the AV receiver, there is no signal-loss or interference. You get to enjoy the best possible sound quality. In addition, you can use the receiver’s remote control unit to operate the iPod and iPhone for basic playback control.

AV Setup Guide App
Install with ease. The AV SETUP GUIDE makes it much easier to perform the set up process with the Yamaha AV receiver. This app assists you with cable connections between the AV receiver and source devices. Additionally, it guides you through various settings such as speaker connections, TV and source device connections and power amplifier assignments. System illustrations and actual AV receiver images help you understand how to make the connections between devices. It is available in multiple languages and is designed for iOS and Android™ tablets.

Phono Input
Get nostalgic. This AV receiver provides phono input terminals so you can connect a turntable and you can enjoy music from your vinyl collection.

ECO Mode
Go Green. When ECO mode is turned on it can reduce power consumption by about 20 percent. Moreover, with an advanced energy saving design, this AV receiver achieves a low power consumption of not more than two watts when in Network Standby mode. *Compared to power consumption when ECO mode is off (Yamaha measurement).

Yamaha Eco-Product
With an advanced energy saving design, this AV receiver achieves a low power consumption of not more than two watts when in Network Standby mode.

So is there any real noticeable "upgrade" with the 3070 over the 3060 ? Only $200 more retail but you can find the 3060 for as little as $1500 open box. Fry's lists the 3070 at $1999.

Im ready to pull trigger on new AVR for my new HT room I am finishing. I dont want to wait unless there is something really worth waiting for.....

#67 ·
Well, I just picked up my 3070 from A&B TV here in Austin! :D

Not sure if I'll get to opening the box and installing it till tomorrow as I'm at work right now. :(

I've now replaced my 3050 with the new 3070. So far, so good. Everything appears to be working fine, though I haven't run YPAO yet.

There appears to be a problem with how the 3070 identifies/displays the input source when the input is HDMI. For my UDP-203 on AV1 it displays the source as '-203'. The Roku Ultra on AV5 is displayed simply as 'H'. Also, attempting to set the name using the web based input_name setting (via http://ipaddr/setup) is ignored for input sources that are HDMI. Not a big deal, but annoying.

Otherwise things are going well. Did the YPAO room correction without a hitch. It still sets all of my speakers to Large and I have to change them to Small and set appropriate crossover frequencies. But then all of my Yamaha AVRs and AVPs have been doing this in recent years.

So far I'm pleased with the 3070. I haven't seen (heard?) much difference from the 3050 that it replaced, but I wanted the Dolby Vision support and having the XLR inputs (for my Sony HAP-Z1ES) is a nice bonus.

.
Its normal to have to manually name the inputs. You can also manually name your SCENE setups to correspond. For input naming go to the input screen in the OSD, select the input concerned and hit the up arrow.

I would be very, very surprised if you "heard" a difference between a -50 AVR and -70. Yamaha's not going to drastically change how audio is passed through and treated, only update features, provide some new capabilities, etc. "Straight" should still sound the same.

#81 ·
Agreed, and I really didn't expect any obvious differences. However, I should point out that as a big fan of surround sound since the mid '70s, I don't use "Straight" (mostly DSU these days). :)

I am really glad to hear these are starting to ship. I just bought all new Klipsch Reference speakers (280FA's, new center, sub, rear surrounds) and was originally leaning the 2070 vs the 3070 and save the $400 difference. The only difference that stands out in the specs is the 3070 has more power and the better DAC's. Is there anything else I am missing?

This is a good sized bedroom converted to a theater room so it's not like I have a huge space to fill with sound. I do tend to hang on to my AV gear for a while so I'm sort of debating the path here..

The "Official" Yamaha RX-A3070 AVENTAGE

Since the 2070 and 3070 share the same manual, any objections to asking the mod to adjust this thread to be The "Official" Yamaha RX-A3070 / RX-A2070 Aventage Owner's Thread?

https://usa.yamaha.com/files/downlo...291A0_EN1_RX-A3070_2070_om_UCRABGLF_En_A0.pdf

OR … make it the 1070, 2070, 3070 thread just as there is a 1060, 2060, 3060 thread? I'm looking for a little consistency when someone posts a new thread for one of these models and we say, "you should post in the dedicated owners' thread for that series…"

#101 ·
Ugh. So that means it may be another 30 days, the end of July, before the A3070 is released to dealers. Wait, wait, wait.............

#119 ·
Just added a Yamaha RX-A2070 to my ongoing upgrade. I replaced a Pioneer Elite SC-25 and added an OPPO BDP-203 today as well. I have a Pioneer Kuro Elite 150FD that I will replace in the future. I will visit Value Electronics downstate next week to see the various video options they have on display. I'm interested in the SONY OLED but I'm curious if Panasonic OLED will make its way here sometime next year.
As far as the RX-A2070 goes, I am more than satisfied with the upgrade. I haven't even 'calibrated' this thing yet and I am really impressed. I still have to learn more about form and function with this thing. In dealing with cable management chaos I replaced a Monster subwoofer cable with an Audioquest subwoofer cable. The bass is so big and clean now I am listening to everything I can tonight.
I have been following posts here for a few weeks. It's been ten years since I have posted on AVS and it's fun to be in the middle of an upgrade again.

This new lineup is making me finally upgrade my aging receiver. It's either the 1070 or 870. Maybe the 2070, but I'm trying to keep it under 1500.

(1) Your TV supports DV/HLG
(2) Your Source(s) support DV/HLG

If you use an AVR and say it does not support DV/HLG...you will not see that tech output from say your UHD player to your TV.

The AVR that supports them will allow the transmission from one device to another via HDMI.

Trying to prepare and read online manual and mess with the setup app to be ready when my 2070 comes in later today and have a question.
Im going to use the 7.2.2 setup, so 2 ceiling speakers for Atmos tracks, do they connect to the Extra SP1 or Extra SP2 terminals on back of the receiver? And why does yamaha called them front and rear pressence and they place them way out of how Atmos is supposed to be?

1. You will use the Power Amp Assign setting = 7.2.2 + 1 Zone and as noted on p. 32 in your Owner's manual, will connect the Presence speakers to the Extra SP1 speaker posts.
2. As noted on p. 145 in your Owner's Manual, the term Front Presence is used to describe three different speaker layouts: Front Height, Overhead, and Dolby Enabled. If you will be placing the Front Presence in the ceiling (over the main listening position), then use the setting "Overhead."

#130 ·
Well i actually have 2 extra promintor 800 speakers i was going to mount on ceiling and face down. That wouldnt work as ceiling speakers? Should i just leave them as front height?

#134 ·
I was waiting in them, but just ended up getting from the sponsor clevelandav here. And just found out it will be delivered tomorrow not today. I was all excited. Must have been a delay in transit. :(

The angle measurements are mostly used for the Cinema DSP to optimize the sound fields in your particular room, especially the Cinema DSP HD3. It measures angles and heights of the presence/overhead speakers should you have them. It will benefit all content if you have a DSP sound field selected and you have presence and/or overhead speakers.

Yes, it will have an effect on the 5.1 or 7.1 speakers, if you have selected a DSP sound field. The DSP sound fields use all of the speakers available to create the immersive environment.
