Are There Any Receivers that Support Dolby Vision NOW?

I keep reading these forums and looking for a receiver that supports Dolby Vision now, but all I can find are receivers with promised yet undelivered firmware updates later this year (or in 2018). I think it's a little risky to buy a new receiver now and hoping for the DV update to actually be delivered by the manufacturer. As we all have experienced these companies will promise just about anything and sometimes waffle, delay, not respond to inquiries and ultimately not deliver what they promised.

So, is there a current receiver that supports Dolby Vision now?

(sorry if the tone of this post is a little crotchety, I'm just confused by this subject).

Yes. The 2017 Denon (S730H, S930H, X1400H, X2400H, X3400H) and Marantz (NR1508, NR1608) models that have been released (so far) are Dolby Vision capable out of the box.

Ehh, yes and no. As I understand it, those models are able to support Dolby Vision, but still require a firmware update to make this completely functional. That being said, the update should come as soon as you connect the AVR to the network.

AFAIK, the update is installed at the factory.

ANY receivers with Dolby Vision Enabled

I see many of the 2017 a/v receivers advertised as Dolby Vision enable but it seems most of them don't have it yet but is to be updated with firmware sometime in the future. Is anyone aware of any current receivers that has Dolby Vision enabled now.

The 2017 Yamaha's and Denon's come with Dolby Vision. What brands were you looking at?

The 2016 models are the ones getting the future update.

Since this exact topic came up less than a month ago, I'm merging your thread into the existing thread.

I am looking at the Yamaha RX-V583 which the description does say Dolby Vision Compatible. I did get verification from Yamaha that it does require a firmware update and they do not have an expected date other than by the end of the year. I would think they would not advertise Dolby Vision if it was not going to be available until the end of the year. I don't think any of the 2017 Yamaha will have it until then.

No, the 2017 Marantz units don't support Dolby Vision. At least my 2017 AV7703 doesn't yet. Supposedly there is firmware coming late 2017.

Actually ... they do; however, you are correct in that your 2016 AV7703 does not (until the firmware update is received later this year) while the newer 2017 AV7704 (which hasn't even been released yet) will support it out-of-the-box.

Yes I reckon I found one (from original question) I have a pioneer sclx58 I think it is 2014 model I use it as an amp to yamaha 3050. The oppo with the drop down menu says the nits for a uhd dolby vision disc as BDMV HDR when ran through the yamaha I think 00005 to either 1000/4000 nits and also when connect straight to the tv direct but when I run the oppo through the pioneer to the tv I get dolby vision displayed in the extended info menu from the the oppo which leads me to believe the old pioneer can pass dolby vision

Yamaha RX A 3050 - Pioneer SCLX 58
Oppo UBD 203/205- Oppo BDP 103 - Panasonic DMP UB900

As the A3050 is a 2015 model, although it can support HDR10 which would pass through when playing a Dolby Vision encoded BD, it will not pass through Dolby Vision which even the 2016 A3060 nor 2017 A3070 can even pass yet until they receive a firmware update later this year.

Yes Mate I know but read my post above and what do you think, it annoyed me for a while why my Mate who has got a pioneer receiver as well but a HU9000 samsung and he would get the dolby vision as disc info on drop down menu and I couldn't then I thought well he's running it through the pioneer so I tried and it show's dolby vision as input on disc so I think the old pioneers can pass dolby vision..

Your post indicates you're using the Pioneer as an amp only so doesn't even come into play here.

Regardless, no Pioneer model can pass Dolby Vision either at this point, especially not a 2014 model.

Correct. Most 2016 models from all brands will receive a DV+HLG firmware update by the end of 2017.

Ok, I see what you are saying.

Actually the 7703 is a 2017 model it was announced in 2016 but released in 2017. Just like the AV7704 is a 2018 model. It has been announced but won't be available until 2018.

But I understand what you mean.

Not sure what country you are in ... but in the USA (which are the models my comments are always based on using) the AV7703 was announced in 2016 and released in Sep 2016 whereas the AV7704 will be released next month in Sep 2017.

Question What receivers are Dolby Vision ready out of the box?

Hello,

I'm in the market for a new HDR10 and DV capable receiver. I really wanted to stay in the Yamaha family, however, I've been informed that the current 2017 lineup, even though they are advertised as being DV ready, are not, and are pending a firmware update as of fall of 2017. And the same goes for the Sony's.

Are there any receivers that are DV-ready out of the box?

Also, when do we start seeing the 2018 models?

Best regards,
Max

Can't speak for Yamaha, but...

Denon 2016 models (available on closeout) have all received the DV/HDR10 firmware update already. Denon 2017 models all had the capabilities out of the box.

My 2016 Denon 4300H just got the firmware update. IIRC, all the 2017 Denon's are all DV capable out of the box.

I also think the new Marantz AVR's are DV out of the box. 2016 models should be getting the update in late Sept or October.

Anthem, MRX 520, MRX 720 and MRX 1120 have DV now. If you get older stock from a dealer just update the firmware and you're good to go.

1. All 2017 Denon and Marantz network capable AVRs/Pre-pros are DV out-of-the-box.
2. 2018 models are released in ..... (wait for it) ...... summer of 2018.
