LG 4k TV with older Denon 2807

If this is in the wrong forum I apologize. I just picked up an LG 65UJ6300 65" TV for my sons game room in the basement. Mainly he will be playing an xbox 1 or tv through a fios box. In storage I have a Denon AVR 2807 and some surround sound speakers from Definitive Technology from my man cave in my old house. The receiver is not 4k compatible. Can I set up this non 4k cable box and non 4k xbox through the receiver to tv using HDMI wires. I would think so as I'm not trying to pass a 4k signal through this device. Others said that I need to use an hdmi from cable box and xbox to tv and optical out to receiver for audio, your thoughts.

As long as your not attempting to pass 4K I don't see why not. You may want to run an opt cable back from TV to receiver for the internal aps in the TV or ARC may work if your receiver supports it but ARC is notoriously unreliable.
