Are any upgrades still possible for the original Proceed AVP ?
Is there a dealer or service centre that may have upgrade parts still floating around ?

HSG is no longer involved in any upgrades for the AVP...and if what my dealer said is correct, Proceed had a fire-sale on all their left-over pieces, including the upgrade kits. We actually tried to pick up several pieces as they were going for dirt-cheap, but someone or some company had them cleaned out within hours.

While I've seen plenty of AVPs and IIs for sale...I think I've only seen one upgrade kit for sale over the last year. You can check some dealers, but this situation left such a sour taste in their mouths that most of them dumped everything. Some...even their Levinson line

Interestingly, I just checked my records and I do appear to still have some of the software upgrades...AVPOS202 and 301, which I think added the DTS Movie Mode and Aux channel configuration.

The latest (and final) revision for the AVP is 3.32. The filenames are AVPOS332 and AVPDS330.

What you should see on your AVP's "About" screen is
Code:
AVP ID: 06210211
DSP ID:0374:6
I can send the upgrade to anyone who wants it. PM me with your email address.

A couple of questions. First, my AVP About settings are reported as:
AVP ID: 06210211
AVP Checksum 97F2
DSP ID: 0374:6

Does this mean I have the latest firmware? The unit was sent in for repair about a year ago, so it should have the latest, I would expect.

Second question - Does anyone have the serial command protocol available for controlling the AVP? I am changing from my AMX system (programmed by someone else) to a Charmed Quark system (jointly programmed by Dean and myself), and we need to get this protocol to do a driver for the AVP.

Thanks.
Mike

Yes.

Sorry, I can't help you with the serial protocol.

but Some dealers surely still have some kits in stock because they ran a whore house deal on them at the very end where they were selling them to dealers 1/2 price, and all they were giving the consumer was the faceplate and some at the very end faceplate and 6 shooter, so what you should do is get a list of dealers or ask them to broadcast to them, and if you could get that upgrade with face plate with 6 shooter for 2700 bucks which was normal price without those 2 things, then you woujld still be doing well. The problem is many of these dealers were dumped on and are no longer Levinson clients now, so there in lies the problem, but since you are their customer and this is one way Levinson would be nice to someone having one, maybe you will have some success. I hope you succeed because otherwise you are hosed because 1's went for 995 at the very end, and are so antiquated now, that without the upgrade you are in a crack.

I did one just to try knowing with what I paid I could sell it when this was all happeneing 18 months ago and that is how I know all this. Great on music and HD music, but not as good as Lex or Theta on movies from waht I heard. but from a musical perspective a very 1st order pre amplifier for sure, and a whole world difference from the 1 at 20 bit to the 2 at 24 bit using the same dacs on the reference 40 on the 2 front channels which are extremely good DACs.

Anyone ever have any luck finding out if there are any dealers out there that may still have the AVP2 upgrade?

I have read the postings about the version numbers of s/w and the DSP ID of 0374:6 but can anyone tell me if the above 3.32 (filenames AVPOS332 and AVPDS330) is still available? Also do I need any specific PC interfacing kit or s/w? My DSP ID is the same as above as is the checksum in case I have misunderstood anything.

Picking up on the DTS and Aux channels - I have not tried the aux channels but assume they would be OK. Similary the DTS decoding works OK.

Many thanks

David

David, if you have AVP ID = 06210211 and DSP ID = 0374:6, there is nothing further for you to upgrade.

Here is a note I received from the Lexicon contact page about upgrading to a MC12. This is the note:

*********
3/16/2006 2:46:41 PM APRESCOT Proceed trade for Lexicon
Hello, John;
There is currently a program in place through Lexicon dealers for the
trade in of Proceed AVP for either a Lexicon MC-8 or MC-12. Please
contact your local Lexicon dealer for details. You may visit our web
site www.lexicon.com to find a dealer in your area. Move quickly, the
latest news I have is that this program will expire the end of March
2006.

Best Regards
HSG Technical Services

*******

I called and emailed my local Lex dealer and he said he didn't know about it and would check into it. That was last Friday. I wrote him again yesterday and don't have a reply back. I will post if I get any new information. If any of you find a Lex dealer that knows about this please post it so I can either contact them directly or have my local dealer contact them to find out about the deal.

Thanks for the reply.

The AVP ID is 05090116. Is this siginificant and did the 06210211 mean that the AVP would have been upgraded to an AVP2? Please appreciate that I have only recently acquired the AVP (last few months).

The AVP2 is a hardware upgrade. The AVP ID of 06210211 indicates the final software upgrade for the AVP. You do not want to apply this upgrade to an AVP2, only to an original AVP.

I can send you the software upgrade. It requires a PC with an old-fashioned serial port and you will need to be able to boot into MS-DOS. You also need to make a special cable, which isn't too hard. If you want the software, PM me with your e-mail address and I will send you the whole package, which includes instructions.

Hi

I have only recently joined the forum and asked a very similar question. I have just bought some RJ11 and sub D 9 pin connector to upgrade my AVP. I still have to make the cable up. I will be posting later when I have worked through the process

Thx to Bob I have the software now! I post there some questions I asked him :

The only trouble I seem to have with the AVP is the problem of selecting the
appropriate input. For instance, I have only three connected sources
(DVD/TV/CD) and when I switch with the middle remote up/dwn button,
sometimes the AVP displays "NOT LOCKED" and doesn't want to select the good
entry!

Can you please tell me if the cable described in the docos exists in
standard. I mean, I don't plan to build one...
Cheers
Fabien

Okay now everything is alright...
I built a cable using a phone 4-pin cable (the two outer conductors are not used as Bob confirmed me) and I made 3 soldering points to a DSUB9 connector.
FYI Bob I had no wooden toothpick at home

The described procedure has to be respected.

Excepted the fact that most of us use now windows XP and not (95). If you don't want to play with your heart beating (Don't launch a "cmd DOS session" to run the executable), please burn a "boot CD" and boot your PC on it. You will be in a DOS mode....

I checked after processing, everything is fine and the AVP still stores my customizings...

Thx Bob again
Fabien

I understand that you have the software upgrade for the Proceed AVP. I have just bought a preowned AVP unit and I appreciate that you could e-mail me the whole package with instructions.

Thanks a lot.

The drop.io file hosting service, where I've stored the Proceed AVP software update and the revision of the user manual, is going away in December 2010.

So if you're still in need of this update, please follow this link to download the update while it's still available.

LOL. You realize the update is from 2004, right?

And, as I said back in '06, the update requires a PC with an old-fashioned serial port and you will need to be able to boot into MS-DOS. You also need to make a special cable. A USB-to-serial adapter will not work for this.

PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you.

Try here:

I am having trouble with the impenetrable MediaFire user interface. Let me know if you can get the files.

Hi Bob,
sorry to say, but I am not very familiar to this platform. It was not possible to get connection to the files. The message shows: the folder is set to private and is not viewable. So at the moment no idea to get access.
In the meantime I had another problem and would need the service code to set voltage options, is there an easy way to get it?
Thanks
Martin

I'd recommend you delete your email address from the forum and instead send it in Private Message to bweissman. Spambots probabaly have already captured it and before long you're going to be bombarded with junk email, if not already.

Just because there is a knob doesn't mean you should turn it.

To Bob (bweissman),

My name is Wong KN and I found this thread when searching for information about my Proceed AVP which I am 'retiring' and reploying for plain DAC duties. I sent you PM about the software upgrade mentioned in this thread and I am crossing my fingers and hoping my luck is good. I hope you can respond to if you read the PM.

Thanks and best regards,
