Gertjan,

For me the deciding factor between the 1014 and 1015 was the 3rd component input. This receiver replaced a 5 year old JVC receiver and I plan on using this one for at least that long. In fact I can see needing more than 3 in that time, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

IMHO, it was well worth the additional $60 to give me future protection for several years.

For the 1015, Do I need to buy banana plugs for the speaker wires or will I able to connect the speaker wire loose ends directly?

sbarrier - Sounds like the 1015 is a good choice for you.

I'm using a CRT projector which takes 5BNC (RGBHV) input, so component switching is kind of moot for me. I use my HTPC to create the output for the projector and switch between sources.

That said, you do make a good point - Whichever one i end up with, it'll replace my 4 year old Kenwood, and there's no telling what kind of equipment i will have in 4 years from now. So more future proofness is always better than less, and for $60, it's not too bad i suppose...

Question:

Since the 1015 is being spec'd as having more watts output than the 1014, is it safe to assume the 1015's power supply / amp section is different / improved from the 1014? If the amp / power section is newer, that alone would be worth the extra $60 or so i would think...?

This is the part that actually concerns me. The 1014 is basically identical to the 52tx Elite model... but if things have changed to the 1015, who says it is for sure an improvement? Or is this actually even better than the 52tx Elite now?

You don't need to, but it sure makes it a whole lot easier.

I'm really not so sure the 1014 is as close to being a clone of a 52Tx, that a lot of people seem to think it to be. I think that is probably more speculation, than it is a fact.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 1015 is rated exactly the same as the 1014 with all channels driven. Perhaps the 120 wpc is for 2 channels driven.

But in my own way, I am King. Hail to the King, baby.

Sbarrier: thank you for replying to my question. . .after some further research I think I've set my saving limit a little higher so I can afford a receiver like the HK AVR-435, which includes the sync delay for those of you who need it. If any of the new 1015 owners have a preference for music and would like to comment on the 1015's performance, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Josh

thank you Sbarrier, for taking the time to share your experience.

Even after reading for over an hour, I really don't know if lip synch delay is necessary for me and my x1 PJ.

I was concerned about lip-sync delay, but not anymore. I use a Panny 700 projector and a Pioneer 1014TX, plus a Directv H10. I do not notice any lip sync issues.

Looking at this picture of the 1015:
http://ww2.onecall.com/PID_26741.htm

It appears that this receiver has the same "glossy" black that all of the Elite receivers have... is this true? Or is it just the picture?

It's just the photo I think, looks the same as 1014. The Elite's piano black is different.

You can look at detailed pictures on Pioneer's web site:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...686388,00.html

It is black but not the high gloss of the Elite...

Hi guys!! Nice thread .

Checking the Pioneer site, I noticed that the 1015 specified as power amplification design "Advanced Direct Energy MOSFET " while the model 815 specified "Thermal Compensation Transistor ". The previous models said " Hybrid".

Could anyone here explain these concepts? I'm practically new to HT and I'm looking for a new receiver to replace my damaged Denon AVR-3200 ...

Which one has an advantage over the other design and how important is this?

I have a few other quaestions related to the Pioneer units but I will ask them eventually as my knowledge progresses...

Thanks in advance

Jose.

From a quick download and scan of the owner's manual, it appears there is not delay for lip sync correction. I will not be buying a 1015.

Have an Onkyo 805 receiver and having trouble setting up Audyssey? HERE is a mini how-to.Click HERE to check out my comparison review of 5 different projection screen fabrics.

I bought a Pioneer 1014 for $359 plus 6.5% sales tax from Best Buy last week. Absolutely love it. Anyone wants to convince me to return the 1014 and get a 1015 for $449 with free shipping from an authorized online dealer? I don't need a third component input as I use DVI to my Sanyo Z2 from LG 3510. What other new features does the 1015 have?

Chad T, about the "lip sync correction" you have mentioned, I found a good report from Audioholics which explains it.

The article tittle is "Audio Lip Sync - The Next Big Feature?".

Seems to be a real concern and I imaging it like the old karate movies which has the sound coming at different time than the movement on the lips. With some MLB transmissions you can heard the sound of the bat hitting the ball before it reaches the batter....weird!!!

Yeah, I can't understand why they don't include a lip sync when more and more receivers in that price range have it. You can buy a stand alone audio delay unit, but jeez.

Nope. The only elite with 3 component inputs is the 59txi. The 1015 is basically the 1014/52tx with thx select 2, 10 more watts per channel, wma9, and a 3rd component input, it seems.

Is this receiver slated to be released in Canada? I called Pioneer Canada and they don't give out any information. They say we don't always carry what Pioneer USA carries.

Thanks!!

I ordered my 1015 from J&R. I got it in 2 days! Shipping was literally overnight! shipped at 4:58pm and I just recieved it at 11:00am the next day. Paid $505.77us with the shipping to Calgary. Duites and taxes came to just $36.56can
So total after everything came to $655.28can. I HIGHLY suggest J&r as this delivery was simply incredible. Came double boxed too.

If anyone in Calgary is unsure about getting this reciever give me a pm and might be able to set up a viewing at my place for a nominal fee (beer)

Might have to go home sick today to set this beast up!

Is the music listening on this thing really all that bad? I'm really close to pulling the trigger but the complaints on the music listening have me a little bummed out about it.

Somebody say something good about the music please! I know the common response is to listen for myself, but that aint so easy to do.
