I have finally bought or almost bought my system.

Panasonic sa-xr57, $300 shipped from buy.com
Onix XL-S speakers, $200 from **********
Athena AS-P6000 sub, $250 from audioadvisor.com
Insignia bookshelves, $50 from Best Buy

I got the insignias for 39 at BB (those things are huge for rear bookshelves!!)
I got the XR57 at Ultimate electronics for $250 (it was 300, but I got a discount)
the only thing left are the Onix XL-S which have gone up to 220 now that they have grills on them and the p6000. Man I am pissed.. For the longest time amazon had this sub for 250. Now its 400!!! Its bull... I am also waiting for the XL-s Center that comes out in Sept from AV123. Thanks for the help guys!!!

For $250 you could get the Acoustech H-100, have heard nothing but good things about it.

Does the Panny XR-57 pass thru 1080p or just 720p/1080i signal thru HDMI?

Also when hooked to a HD-DVD player like the Toshiba A-1 can you get True-HD/DD++ sound thru HDMI. Or can you get it hooking the A-1 thru 5.1 analog inputs?

Any input will help me understand on my reciever choice. Any Panny owners how do they sound. I will be getting Onix X-LS fronts and surrounds. X-CS Center and the MFW 15 inch Sub.

I must agree with EDster. I have spent countless hours on forums related to HT over the past 18 months and in the past month I have changed my mind and I will be getting the H-100. I was seriously looking at SVS and HSU up until now. I think this sub will be a great value buy.

I picked up my Panny 57 last night for $255 from Fry's. I really wanted the black one but all they had was silver. Sounds better than my H/K avr 430 with my B&W 602's. This is just a temp receiver to get me by until the new Elites come out.

My mom works for Sony, and she brought home a copy of "Starhawk BETA"
I quickly slipped it into my trusty PS3, and started playing.

You can get Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital + using the XR-57 or any HDMI 1.1+ receiver. You set the HD-DVD player to PCM sound output mode over HDMI and it passes the (decompressed) audio signal to the receiver with zero reduction in quality .

The only downside of not having HDMI 1.3 is that HDMI 1.3 allows for more (double?) the bandwidth of the earlier standards, so you can pass the unprocessed data (bitstream) to the receiver and apply sound processing to the audio source.

So what this means is that with an XR-57 you can play Dolby TrueHD in all its 5.1 glory exactly as it's supposed to sound, but you can't layer Pro Logic IIx on top of it to upmix it to 7.1 if you have a 7.1 surround system.

Whereas with an HDMI 1.3 equipped receiver (like the much more expensive Panasonic XR-700), you can put PL IIx on top of the 5.1 sound to play it as an upmixed 7.1.

Other post processing like bass management also doesn't work with passing LPCM over HDMI.

Nonetheless, it's a lot better than nothing .

Hello I just bought the SA-XR57 to have a daul AMP for my Plasma, now the
Plasma is a PANASONIC /TH-50PZ700U, and I have an HDMI
cable hooked up to the SA-XR57 and to the Plasma, now the problem
Im haveing is with the outputs of either the Plasma or the SA-XR57. I can get them hooked up, there is all sorts of inputs to the Plasma and the SA-XR57 but no outputs so if you could help me there, I also have a VHS that is Panasonic and then a DVD player.
I originally wanted every thing to go through the SA-XR57 figuring its the AMP but now I just thought with the EZ Sync it would reconize each other and away you go now its not that simple, so any advice on the hook ups to either would help alot , ?I the outputs as well if any and where to look or I need to get something else. Also the HDMI cables aren't Panasonic Cables does that matter cause these ones cost was 125 dollars less then the ones of Panasonics, so letting me know for sure there would help as well.. please and thankyou. Nnut out.
