Does anyone know of a place where I can still get an XR55? Everywhere I go they are out of stock.

Just so everyone else knows, I found both the silver and black Panny xr55 models selling on Ebay for anywhere from $199 to $249 depending on whether you want a refurb or brand new.

Preamp outs could be converted to analog without affecting the signal path for the amp.

----+------------amp
___|
___+---DAC----preout
(disregard underscores)

Also, Panasonic, when will you make something not super ugly?

"Vintage" is good for wine, not for A/V equipment.

well yes it could - and in fact does for the LFE - but to do that for all the channels would negate the whole purpose of buying the XR for its PurePath digital amplification. it sounds the way it does because the signal stays digital all the way

If you are bypassing that, might as well just buy any other receiver with pre-outs and more features.

Not really. If you have active front speakers like I am building, then you can use the receiver's amps for the other speakers and use pre-outs for the fronts.

If you're going COMPLETELY separates, then sure.

"Vintage" is good for wine, not for A/V equipment.

The April issue of Widescreen Review states that the sa-xr57 will have dual hdmi (v1.1) inputs. Maybe they are wrong, but are you guys sure it only has one hdmi input?

Well, the manual shows a picture of one input and one output. But, only v1.1? Hopefully they are wrong.

Anyone know when the 57 will be available? I need a receiver, and can't find the 55 anywhere except refurbished...

I'm hoping the people who wrote that article are wrong about the HDMI version being 1.1.

So it is 1.2 HDMI? Will the xr57 sound any different for DVDs than the sr55?

kurt, seeing as there are no Panasonic engineers (or, no one admitting to be one) around here answering questions, all anyone can do is look in the manual linked above.

One HMDI input and one HDMI output. Too bad. In fact, they removed one of the component video inputs so now it's only 2in/1out.

The one thing that may be better is that if you use it in 5.1 mode, you can get 200w/channel for the two front speakers.

I'm keeping my XR55.

Just in case you're wondering where I got my info... I saw this receiver at a show last week and I took a fair bit of time examining it.

Is it true that in a 5.1 system, the XR57 can dual amp the front speakers in 5.1 mode? The XR55 can't do this?

Keep in mind, the Web site posted is for a shop in Ontario. That is the reason for the higher price.
