Hey guys, I can't seem to find the iPod cable that came with my vsx-84. (I think it got lost in my last move!)

Anyone know what the part number is, or (better yet) where I can find a replacement?

Thanks!

XDE7025 is the Part-number.
$51.95 is the cost and they have it in stock.
Cheers!

I have an IDK-80 and cable up for grabs that I bought for my '84 that I no longer use. Drop me a message if interested. r/Steve

I think that's different, isn't it?

Anyway, I'll shoot you a PM. Thanks.

I am considering adding a turntable to my system and was wondering if anyone has any experience with the quality of the phono input as far as its phono amp.

I'm hoping that I won't "need" a separate phono amp to get the analog quality that I seek.

Yes, the Digital to Analog converter is different. I think. The 72 and 74 use a Burr Brown DAC. The new 82 and 84 just use an unnamed brand DAC. I haven't bought one yet. I would like to go ahead with an 84, but would like to try to find out first if there may have been a compromise in audio quality due to the change in DACs. Burr Brown has been a gold standard for a long time in the DAC field. Pioneer doesn't say much about their new DAC. So with all the added features in the new receivers (the Faroudja scaler and so-on) is the DAC change a cost cutting move to compensate so they can still sell em for the same price? Anybody have any comments on this?

Good Question...........
I've actually done a few comparsions,
1 - SqueezeBox via analog (BurrBrown DACs), via digital (84s DACs)
No Preference
2 - 79AVi via analog 2/ch (stereo direct mode on 84), 79AVi via iLink (stereo direct mode on 84)
Preferred iLink SQ slightly

So whatever Pioneer is using for DACs in the 84, sounds good to me.

dc

Bah this has been killing me for ages! Does anyone know what the myserious DAC in the 84 (and probably 82) is? I love the sound of my 84 but really want to know what the DAC is. E.g. is it a pure DSD -> analog DAC? It's a mystery, by the looks of things...

Might want to post that same question over in the Def Tech thread in the speakers forum.

Don't those take the inputs fromt the three front channels? If so, just plug it in, and try your different surround and advanced surround options. Not sure how MCACC will handle it...worth a shot running it though.

i do not believe that either of the models mentioned does dsd to analog directly... to the best of my knowledge, they do a dsd to pcm conversion...

people sweat dac chips WAY too much... they are commodities nowadays...
