You know... Here are my general feelings right now on the Marantz SR7001 as a pre / pro
Things I like:
Very musical, even brash horns in jazz in extended play are silky smooth and will not fatigue. I'm a jazz / jazz fusion fan and this is very important to me.
4 HDMI inputs that have a high quality feel when switching sources back and forth, bet I have seen even of the external switchers I tried.
Processes HDMI audio very well for the most part.
Excellent DACs, my redbook CD's genuinely seem to sound better on the Marantz then my old prized Denon 4802.
OSD works on all video outputs
The transcode from Component to HDMI seems top notch
Things I don't like:
The remote is not good, you have to remember the devices you have on their input labeling
Won't process 96/24 material, well when I feed it lossless 2 channel stereo from my Blu-ray player no matter what the display says it is 2 channel front L/R and sub only.
The de-intlerlacer to HDMI output was watchable but my projector was still better.
Things that the verdict is still out on:
480i transcode to 480i HDMI, in other words no de-interlacer, I still don't if this works or how well. I was waiting for my next LD screening to check it.
Audessey Auto EQ, I tried it, but I wanted to watch and listen to stuff, I did not like the results, so I took it off. I hope to try it again after this extended holiday weekend.
(I am thinking of doing a factory reset and starting over with it, now that I am more experienced with the unit)
