I solved the humm/buzz issue, thanks for the thought though

Im using it to run my rear speakers, so I had the volume turned to the max from the get go and let my receiver calibrate the channel levels. It ended up making the surround back like -12db....

I also noticed that the humm/buzz was actually in both speakers, slightly more pronounced in one over the other.

I turned the volume down to 75% and it was pretty much quiet, and then to 50% volume and both speakers are now dead quiet. I ran the avr calibration again and it set the surround back speakers to +3.0db.

Makes a lot more sense as I was probably just pushing the amp to the max and had them generate some humm/buzz at max power (even then only audible like 1-2 inches away from the speaker).

All is good now, the amp is working as I intended. Thanks everyone who helped me along with this!! You guys are great

When downstairs this evening to put in a movie and both my amps where off I have an XPR-2 and a XPA-5. The five cut on with no issues but the XPR-2 clicked on and then off. I tried to cut it on several times and the same thing happened. The XPR-2 run my two tower speakers and they where off as well. Once I unplugged my amp and plugged my speakers back in they powered on. I then unplugged the speakers took out all of the speaker wire and the xlr balanced outputs going to my amp. Once I cut the amp back on it started clicking really loudly. I have a separate 20 amp outlet that only runs the XPR-2. I haven't had any issues with this amp before and I'm not sure why it's tripping with nothing else hooked up to it. Really perplexed. There goes movie night

Quick dumb question I just replaced my XPA-5 Gen1 with a Gen2 model and I am hearing a little pop right the amp cuts on, its right after it all the blue lights come on, the Gen1 never did this.
Is this normal? I have this running on a marantz av7702mkii the Gen1 was going through a Yamaha CX-A5000.

Thanks

I get the same thing, pop and click, from my gen-2 and my XPR's. It always seemed normal to me.

Hey thanks for the response glad its not just mine and it doesn't seem to affect anything else and only does it when powering up.

Thanks

Honestly, the only reason it didn't worry me much was that my XPR's have even more pops and clicks including speaker pop, my gen-2 XPA-5 is no where near as bad as those...
Plus I have 4 triggering on at the same time, there's a bunch of little noises going on for a couple of seconds, but never any issues.

I bought a refurbished XPA2 Gen2 amp from Emotiva Ebay two months back. Recently I am hearing a short hiss sound from the front left speaker about 10 secs after I turn off the amp. I have attached a recording of the sound. There is bit of background noise, but you can hear the sound at about 10s. It is not very loud, but loud enough to hear it clearly from my sitting position (8ft from the speaker). Has anyone experienced this?

I get a similar sound for about 3 seconds when powering on one of my UPA-1 amps.

It#s been like that since new (several years ago) and does not seem to affect normal use so I have ignored it (as shipping the unit back from Ireland would be a pain and it does not seem to be a problem).

Probably something to do with some of the capacitors charging/discharging.

Do you get it when powering off also? I'll call Emotiva and see what they say about this.

No, only at power on.

I have an XPA-5 gen1 and wanted to hook up some Klipsch RP-140SA. These speakers have a max 50W continuous rating. Would the XPA-5 blow them out? The XPA-5 would also be powering some RB-81's and an RC-62, which can handle more power.

If it wouldn't blow them out, would there be a large volume difference between the channels, if driven with the same signal?

It would only likely cause damage if you cranked up the volume to very high levels. If you keep the output below the rated 50w it would actually be safer for the speakers than e.g. using a 25w amp as the amp will not go into clipping before the speaker's max ability is reached.

I'm not sure what you are asking about the channel differences, the levels can be balanced using your sound processor (and if you have a built in room correction system it will do that for you automatically).

I have Emotiva ERM-6.3s (300W or so capable) and also some RSL ceiling speakers (they suggest 25 to 150W) running from an XPA-5 with no issue. YPAO on my processor has the ceilings at about 2db higher than the bookshelfs.

Unless you have a huge space or are over-zealous with the volume knob everything will be fine.

I build my own using Belden 1694A, SnapNSeal SNS1 ends with gold plated monoprice F-male to RCA connectors.

Those will work just fine.

Ok, good thank you.... Ive been using a set of 20 year old Monster cables.. I had to tear 2 Siamese pairs apart to get 3 individuals. Id rather have the 3 separates.
