Hi everybody,

I just wanted to get this forums thoughts or experiences using the Rotel RMB 1585 multichannel amplifier for home theatre and music listening. I'm running an all B&W setup. CM10 S2's, CMC2 S2, CM6 S2's and soon in the future will round it out with either the CM1 S2's or CM5 S2's for my complete 7.1 home theatre setup. I am going back to Class AB amps as I currently have the RMB 1575 Class D power amplifier right now. I miss the warmer richer sound that Class AB gives out and that cleaner extra oomph in the low bass Class AB provides when watching movies and music.

I have the RB 1572 I use for my CM10 S2's but may or may not assign it to the 7.1 speakers or I may sell it and buy the RB 1582 MK II power amp. If I kept the RB 1572 and assigned it to the 7.1 channels will it sound out of place mixed with the RMB 1575? Lack of warmth, bass etc? Will the loss of 50 watts per channel make any difference in volume levels? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

If you want to keep the 1572 prepro you can get any amp you want. So instead of 1585 get the 1095 or 1582 or any amp you like and connect to prepro. The sound may or may not change. 50 watts is not much so you may not tell a difference.

Main theater: Sony 45es, 120 inch ST screen, Panny BDT500, Rotel RMB-1075, Rotel RSP-1068, Klipsch RP-280F, RP-450C, RP-160M, SVS PB13-Ultra x 2
Loft theater: Panasonic 60" plasma, Integra DTR-30.3, Axiom Audio M60, VP150, QS8, EP500

Thanks ereed for your response. So you are saying any power amp will sound good and save some money and buy a 1095. I could do that however I do like the specs of the new RMB 1585 amp. I used to drive a Def Tech system with a RMB 1095 5 or 6 years ago and a RB 1090 for the mains. I traded in these two beasts and purchased the Class D amps I mentioned. Hence why I want to go back to the Class AB amps. In my previous post I described what I miss so I think going forward maybe the way to go.

If any other forum members have the RMB 1585 amp in their systems I would love to hear from you regarding its performance and sound quality preferably with a B&W speaker system but any system will do as well. Thanks a lot.

1585 is new version of class ab design. Reason I mentioned 1095 is because older design and cheaper and you said you wanted AB design so thats why I brought it up. I'm surprised you got rid of yours for Class D design without hearing them first to see if you like it. I have the 1075 myself and had it for 12 years and love it.

i have the 1585 , my speakers are paradigm studio 60s and work very well together. i had the mm8077 but it would run out of stem,so i traded it in. the rotel has better control of the speakers, plenty of power, tighter bass better image, and smoother treble. but i do miss the warm sound of the marantz. i have an 8801 my rear sides are adp450 the center cc450 rear back are atoms. and i have an mm9000 to power those extra channels. in the passed i have had xpa5 and xpa2 a pair of upa-1 and a carver signature 200x5,i miss the sound of the carver also.

Thanks for your response ereed. I did listen to the RMB 1575 at my dealers and liked what I heard at the time and figured the size, efficiency and the sound quality were right to me for the time so I went ahead and purchased them and I had a Def Tech speaker system at the time. Since moving up to the CM Series this year I find that going back to Class AB amps will better be served for these beauties and going the RMB 1585 route will provide much satisfaction. :-) And as I said eventually I want to go back to all Class AB so I may go for the RB 1582 MK II but we'll see what happens. Thanks ereed.

Hi leadliners..thanks a lot for your response and sharing your experience. What brand is the mm8077? What pre-amp is your RMB 1585 hooked up too? What kind of sound are you getting from your pre-amp if you say you miss the warmth of the Marantz? I've heard of Carver but never listened to them or even heard a demo in any showroom. Your system is pretty awesome as well leadliners but I'm not versed on the power amps in your system.

Hi leadliners. Thanks for sharing. I would like to demo Marantz components just to hear their SQ. I must say I've been all Rotel for my gear at the moment as I enjoy their sound a lot. I remember I bought an Onkyo AV Receiver and I sold it just over a month. The sound just couldnt match up to the Rotel sound and I even was using the pre-outs to hook to Rotel power amps and still it was not anywhere close to a Rotel preamp sound. So in saying that, this is why I stick with Rotel. I did look on Marantz's website and they have some impressive stuff as well. Thanks again for your comments.

Those of you with older rotel 1068 or 1098 prepro I have few questions about bass management and LFE settings. I am aware if I sent all my speakers to small and crossovered at 80hz it will play 80hz and up. My question is the subwoofer crossover part. Its not clear if that means LFE or actually crossover setting not LFE. I have my subwoofer set to YES and I'm assuming I need to set that to 80hz as well meaning the sub plays 80hz and below? Or am I supposed to set that as 120hz since that means LFE? Manual is sorta vague at best. But again maybe LFE is already set and there is no way to change LFE for dolby digital/dts and the subwoofer crossover is just for normal bass?

Main theater: Sony 45es, 120 inch ST screen, Panny BDT500, Rotel RMB-1075, Rotel RSP-1068, Klipsch RP-280F, RP-450C, RP-160M, SVS PB13-Ultra x 2
Loft theater: Panasonic 60" plasma, Integra DTR-30.3, Axiom Audio M60, VP150, QS8, EP500
