I've seen a number of references/comments about Rotel products in various thread, but I couldn't find one dedicated to just owners.

I thought I'd see if there is any interest in an "Owner's Only" thread. This would be a place for support, comments and suggestions from current owners of Rotel products. Granted, there is always Club Rotel , but that may not satisfy everyone.

Anyway, just for the record, my first purchase was an RB1070 amp that I was using with a Denon 2805 as a pre/pro. I found that it did wonders driving a set of Klipsch RF5s.

Because of that improvement, I began thinking of creating a stereo only setup just for music. I added an RC1070 preamp and was even more surprised at the difference. There is now a much better defined soundstage.

As you can guess, the next step is adding the RCD-1072 CD player. My local dealer doesn't stock them, so I have one on order, which should be coming in next week.

Well you can sign me up on the Rotel list, I just picked up my very first amp, used....
I got a great deal on a RMB 1095... 200 x 5
Looking forward to powering it up, as I am still poking around with setting up my new Pioneer VSX-81TXV that I'll be using for a Temp Pre/Pro... and it seems to work pretty well so far.
I'll be hooking it up to my 10 yr old Polk speaks until my new ones get here..
I Haven't gotten my new Paradigm Studio series speaks yet..

Anyways... this thing is a beast..

I'll report back when I get it all hooked up...

Thank you for setting up this thread! Rotel is one of the companies whose products I plan on considering in the next few months to year!

I have asked a couple of questions indirectly with regard hi-def audio in a couple of other threads, but now can be more direct with regard to Rotel specifically.

With regard to the rsx-1057 receiver, has anyone hooked up a hd-dvd/blu ray player to this unit and be able to listen to the new audio formats via the hdmi or audio analog inputs??

Any potential news of a new version of the rsx-1067 coming soon that will be able to handle the new audio formats? (If I understand correctly hdmi 1.1 is all that's needed or analog inputs????, so hdmi 1.3 isn't really that big of a deal????)

Thanks!

Yup, head is spinning a bit from that thread, doubly so since trying to dig into the sticky discussing the future proof receiver. With my above two questions, I wanted to focus specifically on the Rotel's and what success has been made if anyone would like to share their experiences?

I'd be happy just using the hdmi for video out direct to my television if i knew that the sound quality and functionality would be the same if the audio went via analog cables out vs hdmi to the receiver?

The RSX-1057 doesn't support audio over HDMI - the HDMI on this model only functions as a video switch with no analog video transcoding. It's essentially an RSX-1056 with an HDMI switch board slapped into it.

Now technically you CAN enjoy TrueHD and dts-HD over the 7.1-ch. analog inputs on the '1057, but the HD/BD player itself will need to do the decoding. Right now, the current HD/BD players that "support" TrueHD/dts-HD will only decode the core streams (DD Plus and dts Encore, respectively; in other words, enhanced versions of legacy codecs). Players with full decoders should start appearing later this year and we'll probably find out a lot more tomorrow at CES.

Yes I would be interested.
I just ordered a rmb1075 which should be in wed or thurs this week. I bought a rsp 1098 last spring off a friends friend, and have had it boxed ever since. Drywall people will finish tomorrow, so hopefully I will be hearing some tunes in 2ish weeks... This will be driving my RF 7's which have been boxed since last summer! Basement HT taking longer than I thought....lol!

Thanks for starting this owners thread Peter.

I have the RSP-1068 and RMB-1075 and love the sound. They match up well with my B&W 804s.

Now if Rotel would just make a DVD / DVD-A / SACD player....

With the sad state of DVD-A and SACD I'd be surprised if that happened. Don't get me wrong, I'd buy one because I have a nice collection of DVD-A and SACDs, but there just doesn't seem much support (with few exceptions) for those formats any more.

You will have one heck of a system once everything is unboxed and up and running.

I'm interested big time. Rotel has been the only brand I look to lately for amps and pre/pros.

Peter...thanks for starting this thread.

I've been very happy with Rotel gear for many years now. Excellent equipment for the money. My current Rotel gear:

RT-1080 AM/FM tuner
RSP-1066 Pre-pro
RB-1080 power amps x 2 (mains+center)
RB-951mkII power amps x 2 (sides+rears)

Using B&W CDM series speakers. The system really sounds outstanding!

Anyone heard the new Rotel Class D amplifiers?

Nice system. I haven't checked out the "D"s yet. I'm still trying to decide whether or not to replace the speakers in the system.

I've had the RSP-1066/RMB-1075 combo for four years now (the amp actually five years) and never have had an issue. The Rotel gear powers B&W Nautilus 805 mains, HTM-2 center and 601S2 rears. The amp is one tough sonofagun. Unfortunately, other than with a few music DVDs, I've hardly had a chance to push it to 75 db or more. The system sounds plenty loud a 65 db. I highly recommend Rotel. They have a customer for life.

I'm very interested in a Rotel only board. I have been browsing Club Rotel for over a year now and it would be great having two areas.

I currently have a 804s and HTM3s speakers that need new electronics later this year.

'Nother satisfied Rotel owner here. I currently have the RSP-1068 processor and RMB-1075 5-channel amp (5 x 120W). I love this setup, driving B&W 805S fronts, HTM4S center, and SCMS rears (wall-mounted).

Waiting to hear from Rotel on updated processors that handle HDMI as well as decoding the latest Dolby Digital and DTS formats. Hopefully something will be coming later this year...

I've given up on Rotel as far as a DVD player, though, since there are many better options out there that also support DVD-Audio and SACD.

I've got an RCD-971 CD player and RB-1090 (I think, I'm not at home) Amp (380 watts x 2) in my downstaris 2-channel system for about 7 years and a new 1057 receiver in my upstairs surround system for a month or so.

Love them all - great equipment in build quality and sound.

Highly recommended.

Mike,

The RB-1090 is truly a great power amp. What speakers are you using with it?

Rotel has been very, very, very good to me. RMB1075 amp, RB1050 amp, hooked to a Marantz SR8200 receiver as a pre-pro. Def-Tech speakers and sub. Great sound

It is a great amp. I use it with Dynaudio Audience 60s and a B&W sub. The Pre is an Acurus RL-11. The system sounds very clean, but not harsh. Just wonderful in my amateur opinion.

In addition to the Rotel RCD-971, I also have a Sony SACD player that also sounds great in the system - too bad SACD never really caught on.

Oh well, I listen to the suround sound system more often now anyway. I don't have the time to sit and really listen to music as much anymore, unless my wife is out and I want to "crank-it-up!"

I just picked up my Rotel RCD-1072 CD player today and have been listening to some of my favorite CDs just to see if a $700 dedicated player makes that much of a difference. Boy, does it ever.

I had to re-listen to some things just to make sure I wasn't imagining things, trying to convince myself that the purchase was "really" necessary.

As an example, I'm way to familiar with Once More With Feeling, the soundtrack from the infamous Buffy musical episode. Whereas before I heard a mass of sound, I am now actually able to pick out individual voices in ensembles.

I put on the Alison Krauss/Union Station Live concert, and not only is there pinpoint locations of each performer, but a greater sense of "air" or space around them.

This thing is built like a tank. I suspect I will be tied up for several days discovering nuances I have never heard before.

Pete

What were you using for a CDP before the RCD-1072?

I've been considering a 1072 as a dedicated CD player instead of using my Denon 2900. Just wondering if its worth it.

Sorry - I know this should be in the CD player forum.

Actually, I think that any Rotel product is fair game for discussion, as long as we don't get too far afield.

Before the Rotel, I was using a Pioneer Elite 45A DVD/DVD-A/SACD player, as well as a Mitsubishi DD8020 DVD/DVD-A player. Those are both fine players and in fact I am still using the Pioneer as my main DVD player and for DVD-A and SACD playback.

However, since I started on this Rotel journey and have discovered there actually are useful, audible improvements in a dedicated stereo only setup, I got really curious about what the 1072 could do. Every review I could find basically confirmed each other that this would be a solid performer, so I decided to give it a try.

I've now had an opportunity to listen to a few more CDs from the collection which which I am extremely familiar. I am definitely hearing things I haven't before, such as subtle harmonies in choral passages. There is also a depth to the soundfield which seem to extend out from the speakers, almost as if I had surround channels kicked in.

The is a greater sense of overall presence. Now, factor in that these are only my perceptions not backed up by any scientific measurements. At this point I would have to agree with others who have said that I would be amazed at how good a standard CD could sound, given the right equipment.

For the record, I am a web designer and have no vested interest in Rotel or the B&W group, so don't take any of these comments as a "sales pitch".

Obviously I am quite happy with the purchase.

I agree with you completely petergaryr on the merit of having a 2-channel only setup. A few years back, I bought a used RC1070 for a real bargain, but never got around to setting it up. It sat in the box for about a year and I decided to flip it back out and get a receiver for a second room instead, so I hooked it up in place of my RSX-1055 just to make sure everything was still working properly, and was quite surprised to hear a very definite improvement with the RC-1070 for cd audio.

I still ended up selling the 1070, but this started me on a long (downward) spiral and started collecting 2-channel equipment.

I've had my Rotel RMB1095 AMP for about 3 weeks now and am very impressed with it's dynamic capabilities matched with my new B&W speakers (804S, HTM4S, SCMS). My previous system (Sunfire Cinema Grand and M&K S90 speakers) could simply not provide "reference level SPL" while watching my favorite demo DVDs: Master and Commander or Phantom of the Opera.
