I am looking forward to checking out the AVR-3808 and the AVR-4308 to replace my aging Yamaha RX-V995. So far I am only considering the upcoming Denon and Pioneer Elite models.

Supporter of 1080p & 4K video / Supporter of Lossless PCM, Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio / Say No To MP3 & WMA / Say no to Bose & LG!

"Any word if it will be early / mid / or late Aug? Thanks...
----------------------"
I can only guess but i have no confirmation of an exact date. Only get info in month increments.
---------------------
"Any word on the 5308?"
--------------------
I know we will be able to order it, however the following receivers are actually plano'd. (meaning they are due out that month to be on display and functional) The 5308 will be order only, so i don't have a whole lot of info on that bad boy.
---------------------
"Do you have a model number or release date for the new preamp discussed at CES?"

sorry i do not. I JUST got the info for the new and Denon receivers that are set to be out on the floor. I'm almost positive that this amp will be order only and available the earliest around fall time.

I spoke with Denon yesterday & they said the 4308 was scheduled for July release.

I hope so as I am in need of one immediately.

Counter intuitive though it may seem, calling Denon and asking for release dates on the new models may not get you the correct answer. Quite often the customer service and tech support people are not clued in to the actual facts concerning new model shipping dates. I like the info I can get from my dealer because it flows from the sales and marketing side of the company and they have an obligation to keep their trading partners accurately informed. That being said...my local dealer has been provided with a schedule that has the AVR-3808CI and the AVR-4308CI shipping in mid-July. The 2308CI, 2808CI and 5308CI are scheduled to ship early to mid August. All the models below the 2308CI are due out in September.

OK; which thread will speculate on the feature set for the units below the 3808? Unlike most of us here, I waver between a 2308, 2808, and 3808...not between 3808 and 4308.

I do have a 3806 in the upstairs rig. But I am not sure I need all those features for the downstairs rig (80% of the usage is xbox 360 in dolby prologic II of the Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD straight into the TV right now). Only 20% is the mean old dad (me) playing with all of his toys.

There's a review of the "High End" show in Germany at AreaDVD.

About half way down the page is info on Denon. They have a blurb and pic about the 4308.

Happy Reading!

For us non deutsche sprechers (Google translation, don't blame me):

The AVR-4308

Third Denon novelty, which might be also for the financially rather normally oriented user from largest interest, is 2,500 costing AVR-4308 as a successor of the AVR-4306. The equipment list is enormously long also here: Decoders for Dolby True hp and DTS-HD are just as also on board as HDMI 1.3a-Schnittstellen and car a Lip Sync function (HDMI 1.3a). With 7 x 170 Watts (6 ohms) are ordered sumptuous power reserves.

In the scope of supply a main remote maintenance (left) and a monitoring unit are particularly the 2. Hearing zone (right)

The again developed discrete digital circuit (D.D.S.C. - Digitally hp) guarantees a outstanding signal quality. Of course also an ultramodern loudspeaker measuring and Equalizingsystem (Audyssey MultEQ XT) are also in the feature list. Denons Advanced AL24 Multichannel for an improvement of the sound quality of many sources is a further acoustic capability characteristics of the AVR-4308. For compressed sources (e.g. MP3-Material) the audio Restorer stands for arrangement, which an excellent sound quality ensures also with datareduced material. Two efficient floating point 32-Bit DSPs secure enough computing reserves. Integrated is also a DAB Tuner (volume III and L-band).

Beautifully represented: The loudspeaker Setup with 4308 videolaterally is enormously large the equipment extent. A Faroudja De-Interlacing and Scaling solution (up to 1.080p) and four HDMI 1.3a-Eingänge as well as two HDMI exits with possibility for the simultaneous image output provide for qualities up-to-date of the AVR-4308 as video switching center. Two USB connections, one are likewise present on the front and one on the back of the AVR-4308. Music or JPEG files, which is put down on external non removable disks or USB sticks, can be shown in such a way by means of the AV-Receivers. Integrated Denon full network functionalities. Like that Music Streaming of compatible servers (AAC, MP3, WAV, WMA inclusive Lossless, FLAC) is just as possible as JPEG Streaming. Internet a radio function with support for MP3 and WMA transmitters is also a component of the equipment. For PC lovers particularly importantly the Web might be control function of the AVR-4306. The AV-Receiver can be steered and configured thereby by Web Browser completely. The modernity of Denons of newest Receiver development shows up also in a direct integration possibility 4308 in the W-Lan (compatible with incoming inspection, WPA and WPA2). For joy of Apple iPod a full control and rendition possibility over Denons optionally available dock ASD-1R are possible. Further characteristic of the AVR-4306 is the intelligent output stage management for the flexible use of the sieved inserted output stages with 11 loudspeaker exits (e.g. for 7.1-Mehrkanal and 2-Kanal-Bi-Amping-System). Extensive Multi of zone capability characteristics supplement the equipment list. For ZONE 4 an optical digital exit is available (Bitstream/linear PCM). The AVR-4306 is compatible for optionally available bi-directional system remote maintenance RC-7000CI. As is the case for the new Highend preliminary stage already presented also the AVR-4308 a completely new grafischers user interface receives. The graphically very attractive, multilingual and highly soluble screen menus work optically very up-to-date and freshly. Apart from the well-known EL-Touchpanel-remote maintenance Denon supplies still in series a second remote maintenance for the ZONE 2-Betrieb.

RC-7000CI/RC-7001RCI

With the RC-7000CI universal remote maintenance and the RC-7001RCI infrared/radio remote maintenance receiver offers various control possibilities in elegant garb to Denon. The RC-7000CI is already pre-programmed with codes for many Denon devices and also different components. Additionally it is programmable by means of PC software (software is in the scope of supply) and can be adapted so optimally to the entire instrumentation. The remote maintenance functions bi-directional for the medium selection (if the headed for Denon component bi-directional data exchange supported) and offers (necessarily: RC-7001RCI) the possibility of steering multi-zone systems by means of radio signals. For the connection with the PC a USB connection is present. The internal firmware is upgrade able, likewise the internal IR code data base.

Well I have to say it's disappointing to learn that the phatty remote will be an optional accessory. And probably a pricey one.

Given the market Harmony has been gaining, I was suspecting that remote would be an option. Too good of a remote to come for free when they can some extra coin by upselling.

Hmm, I am not quite sure I follow. Which remote are you referring to? As far as I understand from this report the 4308 comes with 2 remotes - the ones shown in the 2nd picture.

Now for me this is actually a downside. I have a MX3000 universal remote control (actually 2 of them) and no intention to ever use any of my the stock remotes. However, I always have to pay for them....

The upsell remote is a 2 way RF remote that will do things like list songs being played, show current status of the receiver, etc. Apparently it is a Universal Remote (looks like a custom MX-950); Universal Remote got a contract from Denon to provide remotes to them. Check out the other thread for info and pics:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&#post10481493

Making a lot of assumptions (basically that it is as powerful as the MX-950) this is one piece of gear's "universal remote" that I would actually use as an all-in-one universal remote for my entire home theater.

Does anyone know if you can disable all video processing on these units, and just use them to process HDMI audio and as an HDMI video switcher? A video pass through where the Denon does no video processing at all?

This is what I am hoping for in the way of a 2 way remote. The setup OSD is fine but I need some way to see what the AVR screen is telling me since I cannot see its screen in my configuration. So, the remote or OSD that does the same would be a very important feature for me. I do like the remote screen idea over having it on the HDTV.

Perhaps in a month Denon will start releasing some details about these AVR's.

Since the existing units will allow this, I would say it is very likely to allow pass-thru.

Especially considering the Onkyo 875 is coming equipped with the Reon-VX processor at a price point of around $1600.

I agree, Silicon Optix would have been a very welcomed addition in this unit
and the 3808 for that matter.

Seeing how that's what I already have in my 4306, means I really don't need to upgrade for a fancy GUI I'll only see in setup.

Strange isn't it ... the 4308 has faroudja and will cost more than $2000, while the onkyo has Silicon Optix and will cost considerably less ... looks like there are difficult times coming for Denon !

Maybe they figure people with a Denon wll have an external scaler. I know I would never use the Reon in a receiver. I already have the Reeon in the FLEA and the XA2 and use the VP50 for my scaler. I would never use it in my receiver. Although if I did I would prefer the Silicon Optix solution over the Faroudja

I see your point, but I also see the price of the VP50:-)

In the 4308 there will be a scaler (whether you use it or not) and at that price point the Faroudja doesn't do the trick.

Any comments how the VP50 compares in video performance with Reon or Realta? (Happen to see the VP50 at work compared to the DENON 3930 with Realta inside?).
