Does Marantz release new models every year? If so when would the 2014 models be expected? I'm looking at the 6008 but if the new models were coming soon I would wait to see what new features and capabilities they had before buying.

My question is what new features are they likely to have? For me I am sure if there is going to be anything I care about. I am interested in NR series with has a different refresh timing than the SR series. Last year the SR series updates were announced in June

Marantz M-CR610 auto wakeup on input signal

Hi there,

planing to buy this product but not sure if the following is supported:

Is the Marantz M-CR610 able to auto detect any input signal (optical digital or analog) and auto wake up from stand by, when an external unit is connected to it and the external unit is turned on.

Use case: turning a TV on (which is connected to this unit for sound), whoud be nice not to have to explicitley use the Marantz M-CR610 remote to turn on this sound system every time.

If this is not supported:
-are there/will there be any firmware updates which would address this use case?
-are there any devices on the market which would be able to compensate for this, say a device attached on the cable (between the TV and this unit, which would sense the presence of a signal from TV) which would send a turn on signal to M-CR610)

Thanks,
Radu

Hi
I have a Marantz SR5008. The standby indicator light, which was red, is now green?

What does a green standby indicator light mean?

thanks

Flasher In SR4002

I've got an older Marantz receiver an SR4002. I'm attempting to find an IR extender that will work properly with this unit. I've tried a set-up like this: IR Extender without success.

I tested the receiver/flasher with all of my other components and it worked with everything except the Marantz. Is there something else I should try? I am hoping that one of the inexpensive IR receivers that terminates in a 3.5mm plug will work by connecting it to the Flasher In port on the back of the SR4002. However, I'm looking for verification prior to ordering something else.

Thanks!

Plse need help with SR7200

Hello all, first I'm sorry if I dont post at the right place, I am new to this and never have been on a forum.
I hope someone can help me.
I just bought my second Marantz which is an SR7200 (used of course).
I have tried everything I think I could but cant get BASS from the sound.
With my older 2270, the bass was more than enough and even at low sound level.
I currently use it in stereo mode with a pair of JBL CF-120 which are connected to the front L and R output.
All spk outputs are configured for large.
I would really appreciate help, thanks

Unfortunately I can't answer your qestion as to whether an IR extender will work on the flasher in port. The Marantz manual implies that it's designed for a keypad not and IR receiver.

Assuming that your Marantz remote control works fine with the AVR, it seems like you have one of three problems:

1. The IR extender is not positioned in the proper location on the receiver. See the manual for where it's supposed to be placed. You can often verify the location by shining a flash light on the plastic faceplate and looking for the receiver.
2. The IR extender signal is too strong. You can confirm this by pulling the extender away from the receiver and seeing if it magically starts working.
3. The IR extender signal is too weak. I am not sure how one would verify this other than eliminating 1 and 2. If this is problem you are hosed.

The good news is that a IR extender from Monoprice will set you back all of $3 plus shipping. Definitely worth a try IMHO.

Your speakers could be wired out of phase with each other. If there is one, turn the balance control all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. If in doing so the bass improves you have one speaker wired out of phase with the other one. If left red and right red on the receiver is wired to left red and black red on the speakers than the internal wiring is screwed up on one of the speakers.

Otherwise your receiver is misconfigured or something is wrong in your setup. You can try temporarily using a 5.0 setting and see if anything changes.

I was looking for some help with a older model, a 2002 Marantz sr7200.
I am trying to help a friend and I cannot get the menu to appear on the tv. The tv is plugged in via component video. I keep trying to get the menu to show up by pressing the AMP button then the Ok button on the remote as the manual describes but no joy.
I read on another thread about no setup menu displayed on component video but would on plain video out, could that be the issue?
any help would greatly be appreciated.

It should display on Component video. Check the manual for a microprocessor reset procedure.

The menu system SHOULD display on the component output (according to the manual at least), but I actually seem to remember on my 7200 it would only display using the composite video out (and maybe the s-video). I could be misremembering that, my 7200 hasn't been hooked up to a TV for several years now (it's part of an audio-only set up now) but I seem to recall having to have mine hooked up via one of those connections for the occasional times I needed to go into the menu system. I'd try hooking it up via composite and/or s-video (and obviously switch the TV to that input) and see if you can get it to display that way.

Also, I'm searching through the manual now and I can't find any sort of microprocessor reset procedure. Keep in mind a 7200 is pretty old (I got mine in 2002, and I think it was refurbished at the time), so such a procedure may not actually exist...

I'm interested in maybe trying a Marantz next to replace my Denon 2808. Any thoughts on current and near future differences between the two brands since they are the same parent company?

Thanks jdsmoothie, and DrOct
I am going to give the composite or s-video a try and see what happens.
If that dont work he has another sr7200 on the shelf as a backup so that would be my next option I guess.

I wonder why Marantz decided to stick with Fat32 (4gb file size limit) for there USB connection? Even on there latest models. Not that I ever use the USB port on my Marantz. But sometimes I might be useful.

The 2808CI uses Audyssey MultEQ XT, so you'll want to upgrade to a MultEQ XT32 model (eg. Marantz SR7008/SR7009 or Denon X4000/X4100W).

In general, the major differences between the two brands are in their analog circuits. For example, Marantz uses their proprietary HDAM circuits and significantly larger filter capacitors than Denon does. People like to argue over whether they actually produce audible differences.

The functional differences tend to be minimal, although Marantz does provide multichannel analog inputs on just about all of their receivers, while Denon currently provides them only on their flagship models. FWIW, when comparing the Marantz SR7009 to the Denon X5200, the SR7009 has front-panel-lock, "porthole" display, HDAM, one more component video input, one less composite video input, slightly less powerful amps, no DenonLink, no reverb simulations, and its setup icons are gold instead of blue.

As JDSmoothie pointed out, the most noticeable upgrade in sound would be if you get one of the D+M models which supports Audyssey XT32. This year's higher-end models from both brands also support Dolby Atmos and the new Dolby Surround upmixer. Both of those latter features have gotten rave user reviews, although only a couple of BDs have been released so far with Atmos soundtracks.

Here's hoping my question is in the right wheelhouse, since we're talking about using Marantz with various third party products. I'll get my bottom line question out upfront then a couple side issues.

I've decided that the SR5009 is the right product for me right now. Talking to a Magnolia sales rep helped me confirm my decision. And then he showed me a SR6008 for $100 less. So I went to Crutchfield to do a side by side comparison of the two. Very similar, so it's clear I should go for the lower price option.

So here are my questions, regarding the pics I've posted.

For years I've loved having a typical personal computer connected to my AVR via HDMI. It always works fine, but always requires a bit of tweaking. For example, no matter how much I "set up" the settings for the computer or AVR, I usually have to do manual arrangements to get things to work right.

Sometimes when I switch my AVR to the input for my pc, I automatically get dual screen from the computer, at the right resolution and the right sound. But not always. Usually there's a bit of playing around to get things going correctly. It's not the biggest deal, only takes a couple seconds, but it's a hassle I'd like to upgrade out of.

As you can see in the pic I currently have an Onkyo TX-SR605. It has served me well but has become increasingly glitchy. Main shortcoming now is its many years old and the only way to upgrade the firmware is to mail it out. No way.

I also like using a Roku streaming stick, Google Chromecast. Lately it's difficult to get the AVR to get connected to those devices. It takes a few reboots of everything and a little voodoo to get it to work.

I know I could use some upgraded cables and there may be other accessories to alleviate these problems to an extent, but it's time to upgrade.

Which brings me back to that choice between the 5009 and 6008.

Considering the types of issues I'm trying to fix, being that I want various new tech devices and standard pc video cards (with hdmi out) to just work smoothly, if I'm torn between those two Marantz products, which one may be my better choice?

After I get everything up and running I'll be glad to share my experiences

No guarantee one will work better than the other regarding your connected devices. Each offers features the other does not so choose based on your feature requirements.
