Nah, I'm not worried about the quantity. If you want to send me 2 and only charge me for one 605, it will be our little secret

Sweet! Just called J&R to preorder the 605, and they quoted the lower price that was originally on their website. Good deal. One question however, for those who have already predordered -- was shipping free? I was quoted $24 for shipping, but i know on the website all the onkyo receivers already listed come with free shipping. No big deal either way as it was a good price, just curious...never hurts to save on shipping

Not sure about shipping. Mine was quoted as the MSRP rate yesterday but today they told me they'd fix it to be the reduced rate, but on my online tracking on the website it still shows the old/higher price. I'm hoping it's just a glitch and will update soon. In the meantime, any suggestions for a small (I have an apartment and no room) very reasonably priced subwoofer?

Well, I took the plunge as many of you have. I pre-ordered the 605 today. Hopefully the wait won't be too long as I would like to get the 605 in as my main receiver so we can move the old Sony upstairs.

Please start posting as soon as you guys see your receivers.

Oh yea, one big question that may be better off in a different topic... I have a 75' HDMI cable driving my Optoma HD70 and it currently runs fine with my SA8300HD box. Do you think the power will be any different when running the cable box and a DVD player through the Onkyo 605? If so, do you think it will be enough difference to require an amplifier/equilizer between the receiver and the HDMI out cable?

BTW, my last 2 receivers have been Sony's and both have had their amps die on me. I'll never buy sony again. I have the 605 on order with J&R.

Thanks for the information halo0. I guess it is bitter-sweet that my Sony is struggling (I can only listen to the front two speakers right now). Part of me would rather not spend the money to purchase a new receiver but the other part is excited about getting an up-to-date product.
Once again,
Thank you.

My Aiwa receiver had that problem last year, so I upgraded to an Onkyo... never thought I'd be getting another one so soon...

Looks like a lot of pre-orders for the 605! Since I'm not in a rush, I'll wait until reviews come out and then pull the trigger on a receiver (could very well be one of these Onkyos!) in the summer. Looking forward to reading your reviews and hopefully listening to these receivers once the big-box stores get them.

I had preordered the 605, but cancelled it. I need the pre-amp outs, so that means I'll have to get the 805 or higher... and as long as I'm doing that I might as well wait for the 875, get the Rheon upscaling, and get rid of both my HDMI switcher and the DVDO Iscan HD+ from my chain...

P.S. I notice that the PDF of the Onkyo lineup phrases everything in terms of upscaling to and output at 1080p, specifically. No mention anywhere of output at 1080i. Will these units be able to be configured to output 1080i or is it 1080p only? 1080p doesn't do much for me, I'm afraid, given the age of my ancient 3-year-old HDTV...

Is there a picture of the back of the 605 anywhere? I need to figure out how big a hole needs to be cut out of the back of my cabinet (tomorrow) to allow room for all the connections on the back of this (and to figure out how high from the bottom back of the cabinet - including the height of the feet of the 605 - to start the hole). Any ideas?

I gave the dimensions of the 605 in an earlier message. The photo of the back of the AVR is ONLY the back of the box (cropped). You can't even see the feet.

I am pretty sure I am getting the 805. I am glad I held off buying the 804, which most people said was a bad idea anyway. $600 for the next step up is too much.

The PDF says the 805 is the entry level for Ultra2, VLSC, HQV Reon-VX, Zone 3. But VLSC, HQV Reon-VX are not listed in the Key Features it only lists the Ultra2 and Zone 3. Does anyone know which is correct, or will we just have to wait till Onkyo puts it up on their website? What level of recievers will each of these new ones fall into?

I think that the 805 will be THX Select2...but it hasn't been confirmed.

Something's been kind of bothering me... whenever I go to check my "Order Status" on JR.com, if I use "Find Your Order by Date," it lists the Onkyo receiver twice, but if I just use order number, it only shows it once. Is this a problem with JR.com's website, or did I accidentally order two?

Also, if I wanted to change my payment method to a different credit card, I'd have to call JR.com as I don't see a place on their website to do this... right?!

My pre-order is like that also. I called and they only have one order though.

A lot of different answers each time you call. For sure a guy told me that the price was the low pre-order price. Then someone else calls and gets a different answer. I was also told by two different female customer reps that my unit was ready to ship out. Turns out that was false also.

Make sure you keep your pre-order numbers handy folks.

I don't think 999 is too expensive compared with other brands like Denon or Yamaha can offer for this money.

$999 is msrp. I admit I havn't checked J&R onkyo pricing regularly, but I havn't ever seen their prices matching MSRP. So I'm guessing it will be lower that $999, but I just don't know by how much. That's why I posted to lrstevens421 earlier in this thread about the 804 pricing before the latest markdowns. He told me to call J&R, but they couldn't answer my questions.

The 804 is marked at $680 right now. So it's gonne be somewhere between that and $999. I will say that if the 805 was anywhere near the current price I would order it right now.

Where's our 805 preorder & pricing?!?!

I completely agree on both counts. Patience is not my greatest virtue
