For those that are curious I researched the other models of this new Onkyo line up to see what they offered. If one can get what im looking for then it maybe worth the extra few hundred dollars more. Also, who knows what Denon, Yamaha, Sony or HK might office for this $600 price range of this TX-SR605. THis receiver is not $399 btw.

The TX-SR805, TX-SR875 and TX-NR905 receivers will all feature a new dual push-pull amplifier configuration. That means two power supplies. Thats not new technology but maybe new for this company to implement it into their receivers. This does give the amps more power. They did not state how many power supplies these models have.

I see that the TX-SR805 and up does have audio pre-outs. Not sure about the 705 model.
TX-SR705 have no idea about this one. There is no pictures available yet.
http://www.gspr.com/onkyo/images/txsr805_rear_300.jpg

TX-NR905 include a high-current power supply with a massive toroidal transformer,
Dual Push-Pull Amp with 3 stage inverted
Toroidal Transformer and Seperate Transformers for processing.

This has pre-outs and two power supplies. But it also has a nice Toroidal transformer. Probably class a/b amp. Not too shabby but not as good as Denon's offerings.

TX-NR875 Dual Push-Pull Amp with 3 stage inverted This is also two power supplies.

Denon receiver amps stats

AVR-2807: 7.1 CH Home Theater A/V Surround Receiver
Equal Power Amplifiers 7 ch

Low Impedance Drive Capability
High-Current/Discrete Amplifiers
Independent Power Supplies
Pure Audio Construction - none
Toroidal Power Transformer - none

Denon does list how many powersupplies but from seeing their more expensive models I would guess 2.

AVR-3806: 7.1 CH Home Theater A/V Surround Receiver

Equal Power Amplifiers 7 ch
Low Impedance Drive Capability
High-Current/Discrete Amplifiers
Independent Power Supplies 4
Pure Audio Construction - none
Toroidal Power Transformer - none

Now we are talking. 4 power supplies! This is the most popular receiver out there.

AVR-4806CI: Advanced THX® Ultra2 7.1 CH Reference A/V Surround Receiver

Equal Power Amplifiers 7 ch
Low Impedance Drive Capability
High-Current/Discrete Amplifiers
Independent Power Supplies 5
Pure Audio Construction - No
Toroidal Power Transformer YES

Finnally at $4000 you get a Toroidal Power supply! Seems it would be more cost effective to buy a cheaper model and just buy a seperate high end multichannel amp. hmm

Ok... to make a long story short the Onkyo rep had no idea who they were but said "Our lists aren't always up to date." So I called Legacy and they swear they are authorized to resell and that I will have full warranty coverage. *shrug*

What to do... I'm keeping my preorder. I have good warranty coverage from my credit card if nothing else, and I can always fall back on that. I also have the emails from Legacy saying they are authorized if it ever turned out otherwise and got messy. So I guess it's a question of how willing you are to risk it and save $100

Someday maybe I'll actually WATCH my projector...

If you really want peace of mind, I suggest emailing Onkyo and getting a written response back. That way, you can always refer to the email response if future problems arise with Onkyo. You could even forward Onkyo's response to Legacy so that all parties have the same info. After all, verbal statements are worth the paper they are written on...

That pre-order sale is over I heard. It's now back to full retail of $599.\\

I would not or care to run my $5000 worth of speakers out of some garbage receivers built-in amps. So I really need audio pre-outs to by-pass the receivers amps. My research concluded that what I knew all these years. Denon receivers amp section is MUCH better quality than Onkyo offers. Denon will be releasing their HDMI 1.3 receivers by this summer.

Yeah, I used the MSRP listed on the 1st post of this thread as of 4/23/07. I'll update it w/ the new (inflated) MSRP the next time I update the spreadsheet. Or one can just add $100 since that seems to be the difference between the 2 MSRPs for each model

Onkyo has not given a firm ship date, I can't give you information that I don't have. There are lots of people waiting for this receiver and the last thing I want to do is instill false hope. If you want to change your method of payment please contact our customer service department.

I'm getting a little off topic here, so sorry for that. Just wanted to say there's a known issue w/ certain DLP TVs and that Oppo DVD player. Check out the review for the 981 on cnet.com and you'll see it mentioned toward the end. I don't htink the 2007 Samsung LED DLP TVs exhibit that kind of macroblocking, according to its owner's thread.

My question was whether or not you would be able to tell us A FEW DAYS before you shipped to us. For instance, I pre-ordered a HD-A2 HD DVD player from Value Electronics, and we were told a few days before they were shipped to us that they were fixing to get their stock in. I was just curious as to whether or not we would get a head's up a few days before, or if you wouldn't be able to do that.

In other words, no false hope to instill...

Once they come in stock they ship to customers same day. The best I will be able to do is let you know when they become available.

Question about comparing Scaling chips. I have a Sharp Aquos LC-60C52U which is similar to the Sharp LC-52D62U model and I have a 605 on pre-order.

I'm looking at hooking up my PS3 into the 605, but I'm unsure exactly what to do in terms of using the Faroudja in the 605, or to let the 52" Aquos do the 1080p/60 scaling. (I don't think my Sharp does 1080p/24, but supports 1080p/60) Any recommendations about whether to enable video processing on the 605 or to leave it alone?

LOL, the first step is admitting you have a problem .

I know what you mean, I'm now torn between the 805 and 875. I wish they were both available now.

Since the PS3 is 1080p, i dont think the 605/Faroudja will touch the video at all.

Umm... 605 doen't have any upscaling function. Up-conversion is different from upscaling. Thus, I guess there is no signal processing for HDMI signals in 605.

This is correct. This receiver is going to get out of the way of hi-def signals.

That's what it looks like. The video processing doesn't bother me that much, as I do not use the video processing in my receiver. If you are looking for a upconverting receiver I would recommend you look at the 875.

I wonder if you'll be able to disable the upscaler by input. Like if I want my already upscaled DVDs to pass through as-is, but I want the decoder chip to upscale my standard movies that are output with no upscaling from my PS3 or something...
