I recently ordered an 8mm toslink cable thinking it was just a thicker cable but would have a "standard" connector. When I received it I found that the connectors are larger than the ones on the back of my dvd player and receiver.

2 questions:

What is an 8 mm cable for?

Is the 5 mm the "standard" that will fit in most dvd pl;ayers, receivers, etc.

Thanks

Dunno that a 8mm cable, or 5mm cable for that matter, is for anything specific - other than what the type of connector mates with.

There are a number of different optical connectors, JIS F05 (aka TOSLINK) being the common one for home audio connections.

Just because there is a knob doesn't mean you should turn it.

my bad...it is the same connector. There is a small plastic protector on the end that looks integrated so I thought it was part of the connector and it is just large enough to prevent it from being inserted into the unit.

thanks
