The Pioneer SC-LX90 THX Home Cinema Network Receiver

Arriving early 2008

Price ~7000$

http://www.avland.co.uk/pioneer/sclx90/sclx90.htm

you will be amazed.....

PS . It seems that still big companies like Pioneer don't make products only for profit but look also for their image... (S1-EX speaker is another example of such a product)

All the information from AV land are not confirmed from Pioneer (HDMI ins may be 10 or more or less) BUT ...

the great news is that Pioneer decided to use Bang-olufsen ICE power for its final power stage!!

More for this in http://www.icepower.bang-olufsen.com/sw1022.asp

You can see the ICEpower logo in the fron door of the amp....

i expect your comments about that decision.....

Word of caution. Do not trust AVLand website for any new products. They just find pictures on internet and assume specs. At least half the stuff ever posted on their website did not even come to UK.

Well I for one have been waiting a long time to see a receiver with ICEpower modules in it. I know that the famed Samsung Vapor 3000 or whatever it was supposed to be called was going to use them but so far no sign of it.

It will be interesting to see which modules they use; there are two types of modules the "ASP" series which contains its own power supply that can power up to two or more "A" modules that don't have the power supply. There's also three power ratings to choose from where the number indicates the output into 4 ohms; the 250ASP, 500ASP & 1000ASP at 8 ohms the power is around half that.

I'm willing to bet the reason we haven't seen a receiver with ICEpower yet might have to do with shielding given that with 7 to 10 of those modules in there, there could be some serious interference issues. If they address that and get the pre-section right this could be the true "separates killer" receiver. It will certainly have one of the best amplifier sections available.

That thing is a beast !
I still wonder (aloud in this case) why they bother to put composite video inputs on these ultra high end units not even my mother uses those anymore so I'm pretty darn sure the high end enthusiast paying $5K+ for these sure as hell aren't using them either (I myself haven't used a composite video input on any device in over 10 years).
Wonder what we will see here on the Canada side as a Pioneer Elite version of this monster
Cheers

That's a good point. Also video processing is going to be redundant when you consider the quality of processing in the players and displays is getting so good now.

That receiver looks interesting, however, I would rather have the Denon 5805CI. MSRP $7,200. 10 X 170.

94 pounds.

Kind Regards

Hee hee You haven't look at the Denon 5805 (or any real flagship receivers/pre-pro from the others), have you?

Well, I still have a LD player so high-quality video processing and S-Video/composite inputs are still important to me

ICEPower amp section will be interesting...

Sorry, I meant 5805(CI Mk II)... I slipped. I do want to know what will be offered by 5808, though. Also, I'm waiting for info on the rumored Denon pre-processor (5808 w/o power amp section?)

Google search returnes absolutely nothing, so AFAIK this is fabrication or the quietest press release know to man.

Why? The Pioneer could wind up being 10 X 500w@8ohms or 1000w@4ohms and you won't need a crane to lift it into your rack!!!

I've owned ICEpower amps and they are better than any receivers' amps I've heard. And no massive toroidal transformers required. So using the ICEpower modules will likely mean they can use a hefty dedicated power supply just for the preamp section.

Having said all of that I'd bet they wimp out and use the 250ASP & A modules in a similar configuration to the Rotel 1077; 130w@8ohms. (Which by the way is no slouch.)

Pioneer aint Mark Levinson, or even Lexicon, so its pretty hard to swallow that projected price, especially when you consider this:

- Yes, maybe they use even more powerfull Icepower modules ....will see....

-If you compare that Sherwood with the LX90 is like comparing a Fiat with a Mercedes....

We are talking about a Leader of the category here, and that is only good news cause denon and onkyo and sony would have to answer....

Maybe its too early to tell, but it seems like the LX 90 is the new referance standard... way above the others.
Wait surprizes from its video section ....and maybe there is a surprize with its price too!!!

And about AVLAND....
i don't know how but they manage to get the very first information about many new models and not one of them was fake.....
Sometimes they don't have the right picture but they inform about it.....

sure i have i own an integra 10.5 and yes i seen and heard the 5805 i was referring
to the height of the units which very few stands and centers will accommodate and
still allow adequate ventilation.
