I also can hook up a HD DVR or my ELITE as well. My other sources (including my main DirecTV HR20-BLACK) go directly to my crystalio II. And yes I will adopt anyone who is interested!

How is the Xa2 Paired with the 805? I would ask about the 360 and component, but you have the elite.

Hi joerod ;from what I understand about getting the bitstream off hd dvd/blu discs -this cant be done due to advanced authoring of 99.9% of the discs.This means you will be getting lpcm straight to the 805's d/a converters.Unless you have it hooked up via the multi channel analog input? That would change the readout to MULTICHANNEL.

Now these amps are available hopefully the studio's will release a few discs with basic authoring [and no internet interactivity]

I think we already know the answer but has anyone yet confirmed the component, HDMI, 720p up/down conversion thing from hands on experience. Hope springs eternal.

Hi Joerod..... it's christmas time ! Thanks for your time to help us.
That it's my dream

VIDEO
1/Hdmi 1080p@24Hz IN(PS3) ---> Hdmi 1080p@24Hz OUT (passthrough)
2/componente 1080p IN (XBOX) ----> componente 1080p (passthrough)
3/componente 576p IN (TV cable) ----> componente 720p (upscal)
4/composite 480i IN (TV) ----> componente 720p (upscale)
At the same time = 4 IN for 2 OUT to the same display.

Like Santa Claus doesn't make it in half parts he gives me the setting to DIY (hdmi YES or NO)

When I ask for the SOUNDS he said: to your birthday! Ok ok

But he gives me one think more:

-Hidden Menu: is the same in 805 ?

Regards

40w2000, looks like you've got it made. I believe the hidden menu's already on AUTO so if I recollect correctly the 605, therefore the 805?, should be already set to give you what you want except your 480i would go to 480p. So you would need to force 720p in the menu. Good luck.

Does anyone have any info as to when CC will get the silvers in? Their price coupled with the AAA discount is some pretty nice pricing.

And after reading all the specs here I was on the fence until someone mentioned that extra 20#'s you get...I'm all in!

Many apologies 40w2000, but based on d--keller's findings, I lied about 1080p passing through component. Apparently it won't. You'll have to re-think your strategy. So sorry for the (guessed) mis-info.

EDIT: D--keller clarified his post a bit. 1080p will pass through component.

1080p component -> 605 -> 1080p component -> TV is OK

So ignore the above. You're back to good to go status. Sorry about the confusion.

Not to muddy the waters too much with the whole "does the 805 pass component 1080i as HDMI 1080i" discussion, but looking at p.6 of the manual it clearly says this about the 805:

HDMI upconversion of composite video, S-Video,
and component video sources (720p capable)

Whereas for the 875 it says this (same page):

HDMI upconversion of composite video, S-Video,
and component sources (720p, 1080i, 1080p capable)

This clearly indicates that for the 805, any non-HDMI signal upconverted to HDMI will be output at *up to* 720p. The "hidden menu", if it "works" the same as on the 605, can set 720p as the default HDMI output for all non-HDMI sources.

I bring this up because nobody, as yet, has discussed this in relation to what the manual itself says in its most basic overview. (I know: we all skip the basic stuff to get to the interesting stuff; here, though, it's important and most importantly clear).

The implications:
1) If you're hoping to run 1080i/p component in-->HDMI out, you're going to get 720p. All HDMI signals in-->HDMI signals out, however, pass through unaltered.

2) To get 1080i/p over component through the 805, you have to output that signal over component as well (the signal in this case will pass untouched).

3) This should also put to rest the question of whether activating the "hidden menu" disables your ability to have 1080 component-->1080 HDMI passthrough. It can't, and won't, happen this way regardless of what you do or don't do. So, I would presume that anyone thinking that activating this "option" might somehow irrevocably "break" the upscaling/upconverting capacities of the 805 should put this out of mind. In no scenario could the 805 do this anyway.

4) I'm sure this will be immensely disappointing to some. It won't affect me, and I'm still eagerly awaiting my 805 without reservation. But for those with multiple 1080 component-only sources that were hoping for those signals to be passed at full resolution over HDMI, you may want to reconsider your options (from getting an 875 or a different brand receiver without this "quirk" to simply making different connections to/through the 805 and/or your display).

Hope this helps in the decision-making, and that it provides more calm than concern (yeah, right!).

Bummer if this is true then the thought that the Xbox360 1080p via component then out over the receiver via HDMI 1080p is shot...

The very latest scoop on 1080p and component is:

1080p component -> 605 -> 1080p component -> TV is OK

1080p component -> 605 -> 1080p HDMI -> TV is NOT OK - No output - blue screen

This based on this morning's post by d--keller in the 605 owners thread

CC's price seems to just be MSRP unless I'm missing something? There seems to be several retailers selling it for <90% of MSRP. I just don't see that the CC price is all that great compaired to other retailers that have it in stock. My 2C.

On another note, my 805 comes in today. I'm definitely looking forward to hooking it up and annoying my neighbors. I'm in a town home.

It's a VERY VERY good new, and i think is the same for the 805.

Now the second part is 24Hz hdmi IN ----> hdmi OUT.... wait and see what happen in the 805..

I have the silver 805 preordered from CC too and am getting frustrated. It seems as every other distributor has them and is shipping except them. And of course you can call them and answer their 20 questions before they tell you they don't have any updated info for you!!!

Well, I finally "shot the sheriff", "pulled the finger", oh heck I finally broke down and purchased an 805 this morning. Getting it from a well known on-line retailer (can I say J&R?). I have never purchased anything this expensive on-line before, so hope everything goes ok.

I feel so relieved now that I have finally made a decision. I have been bouncing around threads reading about H/K's (I even bought a 247 earlier this year when they first came out but took it back because of the "popping" noise issue the first units had), Yamahas, and finally the Onkyos. No sooner would I think I was ready, when I would read something that would make me hesitate. I finally decided it was no good for me to look for the "perfect" receiver. There is no such beast. I went with the 805 because I believe it will give me more "bang for the doe" (sic), and last me for a long time to come.

Aah, that feels better. Time to get off the couch and order that new equipment rack because the one I have now will not support a 50 lb receiver and a universal remote. So much for the kid's inheritance.

Regards to all,

Steve

You have better satellite radar/video than CTU. Jack Bauer would be envious, but then again if I was Onkyo I'd make sure Jack got his first

If you are receiving it fedex saver you can probably pick it up at the fedex location today if you call fedex and ask them. Fedex typically ships saver packages via air and they often get to their destination city a day early. They decide based on their delivery volume if they are going to keep it in the fedex center until delivery day or deliver it a day early.

I would call fedex with the tracking number and inquire about picking it up.

I ordered mine yesterday from J and R and they shipped it this morning via UPS. I should receive it on Monday or Tuesday at the latest--can't remember if I am 2 or 3 days from New York. Their service for me has been excellent....I did purchase from their corporate sales department but the salesman gave me the order number when I ordered and emailed me the tracking number this morning.

Don't have mine yet (tomorrow, hopefully early!), but all of the images published by Onkyo and other sources show it with the light. The manual tells you how to turn it off if you want (through display dimming). IMO, it looks pretty cool on, but as I like to have component displays as dimmed as possible, I'll probably turn it off after a couple days myself.

For you other question (excluded here) about the display color, I've seen images of the black 805 that look either "blue blue" (like the volume LED) or bluish-green. I really don't care, but part of me will miss the cool amber/red display on my defunct Pio Elite. I'm sure I'll get over it VERY quickly.

I too being a newbie have been reading this forum trying to make sense of all this. Yes I am learning alot but becoming more confused the more I learn. I'm trying to decide between the 605 and 805 also. I'll be pretty basic. I watch movies and enjoy music video but I'm not a gamer. I'll be on cable with a DVR plugged into a Pioneer plasma and will eventually plug a HD DVD in. I'll be driving KEF KHT 3005 speakers in a 12 x 18 room. So it seems that my video is a wash between the two. Will I get an equal percentage of quality to the price differential? Will I be sacrificing a future need and immediate quality for $350. Thanks to all for your input!

For anyone still wondering about how the 805 handles Dolby TrueHD over HDMI, this image (from the first page of the anticipation thread) should be noteworthy:
http://www.gspr.com/onkyo/images/txs...t_open_300.jpg
7.1. Recognized/displayed as TrueHD. Indicates HDMI input. What they fed it from, of course, is a mystery. But it sure looks like 7.1 bitstream, decoded by the 805 itself.

Quick update to my earlier post re: lip sync.
See p.94 of the manual. The phrasing makes it seem specific to the DVD input alone, but we all know that this manual is often less-than-clear. But it appears that yes, you can determine the lip synch independently of using the auto synch with HDMI.

Trust me this is not a box that can easily be lugged around. This bad boy weighs a ton. My arms hurt .

Making the most out of what I got.

65.30 pounds, actually. So it's not THAT heavy...

I'm having a funny flashback to almost a decade ago, when I upgraded from a cheapo AVR to a Pio Elite (about 25-28 pounds): I was shocked (and, at the time, completely confused) about how that thing could weigh SO MUCH. Since then, I've gone from a nearly 200-lb tube TV to a 90-lb SXRD, and now from a <30-lb receiver to one >50lb.

Is there some kind of Einsteinian or Newtonian law regarding the conservation of consumer electronics weight?

Come, let us kill the spirit of gravity...
