AFAIK, no new AVRs at CES, rather more likely to hear something later in the spring on the new models.

So is there really anything available at the moment that can remotely compete with the 5308? Not that I'm looking to upgrade, I'm just curious. Seems it was the last of the great flagships frown.gif

If they are not going to release a new high end receiver, why not release more of the upgrade kits? It does not make sense to me.

Are there kits available? I was told no months ago.

Cheers,

No kit. No upgrade. However, all you need do is to simply purchase a dual HDMI 1.4 Blu Ray player so you can pass the 3D video to the TV and the HD audio to the 5308. smile.gif

I would never sell the 5308 either, get you an Oppo, and do the 7.1 ext ins and enjoy, Same dilema here, with my 5803, until I opted for the 4520, because of Audyssey XT32, everything thrown at it sounds incredible, I just cant get myself to sell the 5803 though, it will eventually power another theater room and considering mild electrostatics for the 5803 massive amps, when I wasted 800.00 on the thx upgrade for the old Denon, I never used it, just throw a towel over your speakers for thx effect, but if you can find an Xt32 upgrade for the 5308, it will be more than worth it . God please allow the new Denons to remember all settings for every input this time around, or at least a quick select for each input

Thanks guys ... I really appreciate all the help
I have Focal Electra Be 1038 as my fronts , monitor audio center , alpine ceiling speakers , monitor audio sub woofer and Bose 901 series 6 hanging from ceiling as the surround back speakers 7.1 set up ...was gonna get an 80 inch 3d tv this coming thanks giving to finally retire my more than 10 year old 60inch sony grand wega and move from 1080i 2d to the realm of 1080p 3d tv ... Searching for compatibility is how I discovered bout the upgrade last week ...

What do u guys think about the thought of using a pre amp and use the 5308 as a power amp any suggestions on
What would work best with my 5308...
That way I may be able to enjoy the benefits of new Audissey 32 sound upgrade as well ...

No, it won't work that way. If you were to use the 5308 only as a power amp, then you also would not be able to use any of it's Audyssey features, as those are in the pre-amp section of the 5308.

Consider the Oppo 103D for only $100 more than the 103 as the 103D uses the Darby Vision technology as well as can be firmware upgraded to support upscaling 1080p to 4k/60fps video while the 103 will be limited to 4k/30fps video.

Same exact issue here. Just purchased the Vizio 80" 3D TV and have no way to pass 3D video through the Denon. I have 6 Dune players in my house. 4 Bases 3.0 and 2 303Ds. Currently running optical out the 303D into the Denon for sound. I called Denon about the upgrade and was told no it is no longer available. The AVR 4520CI is a downgrade in my opinion :-(. I have been disc less in my house for 5 years now so the Oppo is not on the table. Zappiti and my 32 TB Video Server are too convenient.

I have tried several HDMI splitters and HMDI Detective with custon EDID to fool Denon but no luck. Once 3D signal hits Denon on any HDMI input nothing passes at all. I am corresponding with HD Fury in reference to their HD Fury 4 and custom EDID splitter for a solution. I was quoted $ 550.00 US and a guarantee that 3D will pass through to TV on output one and HD Audio on output two of the custom splitter with the HD Fury 4 on the Denon side of things.

The Oppo has 2 HDMI outputs. One for Video/Audio and the other for the HD Audio w/2D blank image for any non 3D AVR.

No Sound from Zone 2

I'm trying to reconfigure my 5308 to use zone 2, which I haven't used before. I've attached a pair of speakers to Amp Assign-2, have set Amp Assign to Zone 2, turned on Zone 2, assigned Zone 2 to Source, and cranked up the volume. But I get no sound from the speakers. What am I missing?

Thanks

Hi kdeemer, are trying to pass a HDMI source to Zone 2? If so, not possible, its either optical or coax digital or an analog RCA cables.

Very unlikely since the unit would need a complete DSP overhaul. That would be way more expensive than just adding an Oppo 103D for $600 that would handle 4K.

HD-DVD = 94
Blu-Ray = 120 ( 24 Warner red2blu )

So bypass the 5308ci and run your HDMI cable from your Oppo to your 4K TV.
