Are you allowed to sell through mail order? I know some places are not internet dealers for Onkyo, but will sell to me (or at least preorder) if I call their store and pay them to ship it to me.

Are you allowed to sell it to customers and then ship it to them?

There are plenty of Integra dealers in the LA area.

Talked to a local dealer on Monday and placed the order.

Interesting thing was that I had to call a couple Integra dealers before I found one that knew up what was up. The first one that I called dtold me that the bottom had dropped out of the mid-fi market and that they would only be handling the lower end receivers. The second that I called knew exactly the model I was asking for and said that "the specs on that unit look awesome". I should be finding out how awesome sometime in late July or early August.

While we are anxiously awaiting for the arrival of this much anticipated Integra DTC-9.8 pre-pro and the subsequent professional & user reviews, can anyone shed some light on the following:

Are there any current HD-DVD or Blu-ray players that are capable of sending the raw DTS-HD Master Audio or DD TrueHD bitstream out so it can be decoded in the DTC-9.8? Any announced future firmware upgrades for any current players that will do this.

(I am aware that some of the current players can decode DD TrueHD, etc internally and send it out as LPCM. I am also aware that some hold the position that as long as these HD audio formats can be decoded in the players, decoding in the pre-pro/avr is a non-issue.)

I do realize that advanced authoring on some movie discs may have some restrictions on whether the raw bitstream can be sent out, but I was thinking more along the lines of using hd audio demo discs like:

HD-DVD DTS-HD Master Audio Presentation Disc

or

Blu-ray DTS-HD Master Audio Presentation Disc

Does the following note on the disc jacket indicate that there are no software authoring restrictions to a capable player sending the raw bitstream to the DTC-9.8 for decoding?

"

To enjoy the full benefits of this disc, you must play this on an HD-DVD/(Blu-ray) player in addition to a DTS-HD Master Audio capable A/V receiver or preamp. If you do not have a DTS-HD Master Audio capable A/V receiver or preamp, audio will default to full 1.5 Mbps DTS Encore, still providing you with twice the resolution of most standard DVDs"

PDF file with info about the DTC 9:8

The price was rumoured to be $1,600 on the Norwegian forum. Can this be true?

Every other peice of HDMI gear readily lists the number of HDMI inputs and outputs. But that is not the case here.

Does anyone know why there is such a curious omission?

In fact the third part advertisements readily list
"For connectivity Onkyo's DTC-9.8 features HDMI terminal (Input ×4, output ×2),"

But Onkyo does not. So like dude just what gives?

Sorry for asking such a stuppid question but I do a still have a wee bit of me common sense left. I hope that someone who is smarter than me is not trying to take advantage of my ignorance

I'll be closely following the developments on this one - hoping the sound quality is as good as the features list.

Street has usually been 15% off for processors, my guess was based on that.

According to the manual, there is a dimmer button on the front panel that controls the intensity of the led display. Is the color (tint ) of the led display also adjustable or user selectable? I've seen different photos on the web that shows varying shades of blue, green, orange or gray characters against a black background.

Since the DTC-9.8 doesn't house an internal amp in its chassis, is it expected to be cooler to the touch than its Integra/Onkyo avr siblings?

Sadly, currently none can do it.
A few have 1.3 HDMI (which is the only way the new formats can be passed bitstream), however, none of those players pass these formats (whether or not a FW upgrade can activate the pass-thru is debatable at this point).

Thanks, I guess I was hoping that the landscape had changed recently and that this was not still the case.

E-H- Thanks for the thread.

If it's not worth waiting until the last minute to do, then it's not worth doing.

I am itching to order one, but just can't make myself do it on published specs alone. I am anxious to hear the reports from those of you with less resistance than I so I can decide if this is the next upgrade for my HT. I want the HDMI video switching, the 7.1 processing, and the Audyssey room calibration to go with my 200Wx7 Sherbourn amp.

The problem with these new audio formats and external decoding (via pre/pros and receivers) is that the Blu-Ray Association has been somewhat vague as to whether they would condone its implementation.
In a nutshell, despite the decoders in the new and upcoming audio boxes, it may all be for naught (with decoding only being done in the players).
But...what the hell, I'll take it in my new pre/pro.

7 channel, 200wpc, 8 ohm powering my M&Ks.
Unfortunately, it is backordered and I may not get it for another month or so.

I read the entire manual last night, this thing rocks based on the features, I don't think I will be able to resist

this thing has a full manual EQ setup for each speaker at a bunch of points , .5db level adjustments, .2 feet distances, Audyssey Auto EQ, volume settings separate for each input to account for differences between sources, mute db level set, sound modes applied for each separate input signal, 2 HDMI outputs, 3 12v triggers with adjustable delays, multiple IR in/out, balanced in/out, THX Ultra 2, dealer settings store/recall with lock/unlock, rack mount kit available, XM/Sirius, separate toroidal transformers for audio and video, sync delay per input, many crossover points per speaker, made in Japan

the list goes on and on
