Interesting choice of words. What receiver did you replace?

Congratulations! Now you know you're going to get hammered with questions.

You mentioned that sometimes there's a delay when switching channels. How much of a delay? Does the delay happen when switching from a non-DD channel to a DD channel and vice versa? Did your previous receiver have this delay?

what is interesting is that the 875 scored a 120 out of 130 in the hqv test and yet the toshiba xa2 scored a perfect 130 out of 130 using the same reon chip. Does the type of TV you use, play a role in the scoring? does the score get computed automatically or is perception by the reviewer or person performing the test? (meaning they look at the screen and based on some perception they score that particular test and move on to the next and then at the end, they tally up all the individual scores to end up with a final score?)

p.s. excuse me if the methodology of testing using the hqv is already well known. ive no experience in testing procedures using the hqv dvd.

It is somewhat subjective, but they try to set strict criteria. When you see 3 reviewers doing the reviewing and the scores are averaged, that means the data is somewhat subjective.

Mine just arrived. My wife said it and another box arrived, which was another LCD for a guest room. That explains the excessive shipping weight I had noted in a previous post. I hope to have it set up tonight. Will post some observations once I have it up and running.

that could explain the variance then. Still, 120 is a great score.

Mine came from a distributor. I have it out and unacked and all hooked up. I plan to send in many different sources to test out the scaling capability. I will also throw some good sound at it. My Wife just asked why I had the same receiver sent to me (I guess the 805 and 875 and soon 905 all look alike)...

joerod: pl remember to remind us of what display, etc., in your setup. I presume that everyone agrees that the only significant thing the 875 offers beyond the 805 is video processing via the Reon, so will be very interested in this, and thus the sources you feed it.

Cyp10, do you have your STB set to 'native' or a constant resolution output? The theory here was that if you set your STB to 'native' the delay that one normally experiences when having the STB go direct to the TV would be eliminated by the Onkyo. This is because a direct connection to the TV causes the TV to 'resynch' whenever you change from a 1080i channel to a 720p channel or a 480i channel.

Since the Onkyo is converting everything to a constant resolution, it was thought this delay would be eliminated. It seems that's not the case. If that's the case, I'm very disappointed because that was one of the attractive features of the Onkyo. It would have enabled me to use 'native' and avoid the annoying resynchs of the TV. Not good.

Mine arrived today, but it was black instead of silver (which is what I ordered). One Call is overnighting a silver one to me (on their dime) and paying for shipping this one back. No worries though. I don't have time to set anything up until Friday anyway. To those of you that got yours today, enjoy!

will the 875 help my pq.....I have SA 8300HD DVR and PIO 5070? If anyone has the 5070 and is getting the 875 and can test the PQ that would be great. I think the PQ is very good now going direct HDMI from SA to PIO using pass-through. Would hate to spend the $$ to really not notic any diff by using the 875's Reon etc.
