I recently got an Onkyo 605 here in Tokyo, and one of the selling points for me was that it had 7.1 pre-outs so I could use Outlaw M-Blocks for the L/R speakers.

It was recently delivered but haven't set it up yet. In preparation I had downloaded and printed out the English manual (I can read Japanese but since English is my native language I can skim through the NA manual easier). I was scared for a minute when I saw in the NA manual that it only had a pre-out for the subwoofer, but I checked the Japanese manual and it had 7.1 pre-outs like I thought it should.

So what gives? Is Onkyo cheaping out on its NA customers? Granted I got the better end of the stick and the price I paid is probably $100 or so more expensive than what it can be found for in NA, but I still don't like it when companies cut corners like this. Anyone know of any other differences? I'll post them if I spot any more.

Yes, I believe they are cheating us. No pre-outs on a $500 receiver? You've gotta be kidding me. It's one of the reasons why I won't buy one and I won't recommend one.

"Vintage" is good for wine, not for A/V equipment.

I wonder if they are actually relabeling the 705 as the Japanese 605?

Some days it's hardly worth chewing through the restraints.

There would be an easy way to find out... how many watts per channel x 7, into 8 ohms is this Japanese Onkyo 605?

Sorry for the late response, I didn't get a notification for this topic for some reason.

Don't see the ratings for 8 ohms in the Japanese manual. @ 6 ohms, it says it's 120W for rated output power and 185W for maximum, while the English manual says 140/175....

I guess they're the same, maybe mains power differences or something affect the Japanese ratings...
