I have also posted this question on the Official Integra DTC-9.8 thread but since these are basically identical I am posting it here as well:

I have my system connected to the Integra DTC-9.8 and set everything up via the OSD including assigning inputs, speaker distances, etc.

I am getting video but not seem to be getting any audio ( HDMI for PS3 and optical for D* HR20 ).

The display on the Integra DTC-9.8 is recognizing the format being received, i.e. multi-channel for uncompress 5.1 PCM but no sound out of my system..

Any suggestions?

Can you get any sound with any input, FM, AM, Test tones?

You could just use the on screen display, but really, on the lowest setting, the display is not distracting at all. It's also not the distracting blue display that so many manufacturers think is cool these days.

Thanks. So the on-screen display has all the info I would need (including spelling out "DTS Master Audio", etc.).

Question - If during a movie - you want to bump up the volume a couple notches - I guess that would be displayed on-screen as well (kind of irritating if you have guests over). Right? Is there an easy way to defeat this?

Thanks for the help but I had forgot I reset the Integra DTC-9.8 and consequently had the volume turned all the way done :-)

OK. Great.

Please remember to post your impressions, especially sound quality (on the 9.8 thread of course).

Thanks again - I will - I listened to the uncompressed PCM 5.1 soundtrack of the Blu Ray Underworld disk last night using my AVR-4306 - I plan on playing the same soundtrack this evening with the Integra DTC-9.8..

If it is the same or better I am going to be happy ( it sounded so real last night I am not sure how much better the sound can get but I am always optimistic :-)

Main reason for up grade is ability to play DTS-HD Master Audio for disks that don't have the uncompressed 5.1 PCM soundtrack as well...

Thanks again!

Just go to Miscellaneous in setup then OSD setup and turn immediate display to off.

Tony,

The PS3 dose not decode DTS-HD MA yet, only the core until Sony releases a firmware fix.

I'm thinking of going w/ the Pio Elite 95HD Blu Ray Player as well. Seems like the best choice for BD HBR (DTS MA) playback w/ Integra/Onkyo. My only other options were the Sony S500 and S200ES.

why isnt the Samsung 1400 an option? its available now at a more reasonable price and sends DTS HD MA bitstream

I currently have mine connected to an Onkyo 805 in my living room and it looks and sounds great

Finally received my SC885 today after two months. Audio is excellent but so far I am very disappointed with the video processing.

Gear and Issues:
FIOS DVR into HDMi - only video, audio will not work, forced to run Coax
Oppo 981HD - Audio and Video work via HDMI

When I select 1080p for the Reon it simply will not sync and starts bouncing all over the place. 1080i Reon syncs but displays noise and looks washed compared to running HDMI straight to the projector, a VPL-VW50. Reon "through" selection seems to be best at this point but it's extremely disappointing not to be able to use this processor. I have selected Immediate display to "off" in OSD as well. I even tried running 1080p on the Oppo into "through" on the Onklyo and it had problems with that as well. What gives?

Has anyone heard or experienced similar problems? Will Onkyo be able to help?

I am running a Oppo 970, Sony 995(400 disc changer), Samsung 1400, and a Toshiba A35 to my Optoma HD80 thru the 885 all upscaled to 1080p with no problems.

I have to assume, at this early stage, that the processor might be bad. I'd like to hear if anyone eles has had a similar issue.

Did you 1080p run fine on the first try?
Any unusual settings?

I have the Oppo set to 720p , the Sony to 1080i, 1400 at 1080p and the A35 at 1080p. I have the 885 set to 1080p and I leave it there . I do not change it . I am getting clear noise free video. My projector detects the 1080p and displays the resolution everytime I switch inputs.Try the second output and see if things get better for you.

Tried both outputs, main and sub, back and forth several times. Same result. Turning off the OSD thus having true through signal is the only thing that gives me clean video. It has to be a bad processor I fear.

So, how was the comparison between the 4306 and the 9.8?

Could be an HDMI cable problem since it won't pass 1080p from either the Oppo or the Integra.... FWIW the Reon will likely do a better job of upconverting and processing if you feed it the native 480i signal from the Oppo. (Even if it outputs 1080i your PJ can cleanly convert that to 1080p with ease.)

If the HDMI audio works with the Oppo, then there's no reason that it shouln't work with your DVR - check the HDMI settings on the DVR and Integra.

Same here. I've got several pre-orders out there along with the Integra. Nothing but silence so far, but if I can work better deals/numbers, I'd like that info, too.

Re: my 885 pre-order:
My dealer says Onkyo Pro is giving no ETA what-so-ever. They'll get here when they get here. I'm to check back with him November 1. At least I'm in the cue. Patience is a virtue I guess.

That's the strange part - it passes 1080p perfectly from the OPPO. I even used to run 1080p from the OPPO via HDMI to DVI conversters. No problems until I got this processor.

Lack of HDMI audio out of the Motorola QIP6416 is very odd. Have the same box on another set, runs audio via HDMI no problem.

Basically I've had no problems with the same exact equipment until I installed the Onkyo.

Well that is odd... you very well could have a defective unit - it happens. I know of at least one ohter guy that's using the Oppo with no issues. Better contact your dealer.

It's definitely defective.

I did get the audio to work over HDMI out of the DVR but resetting the box and the Onkyo several times. But, same video defect.

Thx for the help.

Greetings,

FYI - By setting the Oppo to 720p, the player is deinterlacing the signal and scaling it. You then have the Onkyo taking an already scaled image and scaling it again to 1080p. The Oppo can output 480i via HDMI which would be the preferred setting when using a video processor like the Reon. This would allow the Reon's superior capabilities to handle the deinterlacing and scaling in one step.

As far as your Sony goes the best solution is to set it to 480p since it won't do 480i output via HDMI and let the Onkyo handle the scaling to 1080p.

Regards,

The OPPO DV-981HD does not output 480i, 480p is the base. Therefore outputing 1080i, to the Onkyo's 1080p is probably best.

I am running a Oppo 970, Sony 995(400 disc changer), Samsung 1400, and a Toshiba A35 to my Optoma HD80 thru the 885 all upscaled to 1080p with no problems.

The above post indicates that he has the 970HD which will output 480i. Actually, if we were speaking of the 981HD it would have no problem with 1080p output as it deinterlaces and scales very well.
