I tried to post this last night, but apparently something didn't work.

For all of those who have received their 885 units- do they have the same feet that most pieces of audio equipment have? I am looking at buying both the 885 and the Blu Dot Modulicious credenza but Blu Dot only claims that the shelves have 7" of usable height. Seeing as how both the Integra unit and the 885 spec sheets have the same height specified (7 5/8" inches) and the 885 doesn't appear to have the feet, I was wondering if one of you could measure it for me and tell me what the height is.

Apologies for not posting a link to Blu Dot's site but I haven't posted three times yet.

I realize that I will probably need to have some cooling fan action here.

Thanks.

Both these units run pretty hot and need a little space to breathe. I would not recommend trying to "squeeze" it into any space.

That makes sense. Pure if very similar to my Integra Research Direct mode.

I run the Multi-Channel Direct setting on the 9.8 when listening to music. I have it connected via multi-analog cables not HDMI.

No. The 9.8 does not have Pure Direct Mode. It does have "Direct" mode though.

Question on ONKYO Pure Direct. Doesn't the Onkyo Pure Direct mode shut off and bypass all Video processing? I think the direct mode Integra has does not. Anyone with the 885 confirm.

The 885 does have the feet just like the 9.8. And it measures 7 5/8" WITH the feet attached. The feet are there for a very important reason...air circulation through the unit. I don't know why onkyo doesn't show that in the web pics. But here's a pic that I took that shows the feet.

Highlander where did you order yours from? I purchase from Troxell and I'm still waiting. Seems like those bought from East Coast Distributors are shipping whereas those on the West are still waiting.

Also has anyone attempted to update the firmware using the above said CD? Just wondering if the update is command line driven versus point and click GUI.

cstein,

PM me and I will give you the details. I dont' think it is allowed for me to post that info on the forum.

Djoel,

The firmware fix is for the black levels and REON control. A fantasitic member Joerod is had done the update (on his 905) and has posted the instructions here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...SC885P&page=10

We are still waiting for his full report but it seems positive so far.

None of it seems to address the lipsync issues.

If you sign a waiver you can do the update yourself. Seems straight forward just need a straight serial cable and a windows machine.

I've been spending way too much time in the HDM threads, didn't know if Onkyo released FW or what !
This is great news for sure, I'll check it once I get home....Hard at work here

BTW no issue with lip sync here......

Thanks

Spoke to my dealer today and apparently i'm next in line for
an 885.

Hopefully I will see it soon. It's only been a 45 day wait so far.

He also told me that anyone who ordered from October on will
probably not see it until January unless you can find one that
is already in circulation.

Well, I placed my order on Oct 5th with Troxell and I just got off phone with the CS rep and he informed me that I was due to receive my unit anywhere from 1 - 1.5 weeks from today shipping direct from Eiki. One thing I don't like re: Troxell is the need to call in for status. The CS rep did take down my info but I am not really counting on him to actually call me back. The Web status also has not worked for me. I am hoping they are delaying the original "end of the Oct month" ETA to do the FW upgrades! Ok..end of my rant!

Rich, looks like we do not need the latest FW update for the 885 we just received. Its the 1.04...version in the update and we already have that version. To adjust reon picture quality, just press and hold display (from remote) and there's a menu on the units display (not TV). Or just read the instructions from the link (look in post#273) in the following link below. So I assume the reon black level issue has also been corrected in the units we have. One more cool feature I just found. Seems like this unit is aud pro ready also. On the unit, hold down setup + press On/standby, and audyssey pro shows in the display.

Integra removed the "Pure Audio" mode from their current product line. One can accomplish the same thing by choosing "Direct" mode and turning off the video circuitry (there are codes for that).

I followed the link Highlander has provided and the firmware update looks like apple pie. I'm having no problem with signing the waiver and doing this myself. Easy pickens! Then again, it may be moot. Sounds like those that are shipping now are loaded with the latest firmware release.

As an aside, I called Troxell and they expect receipt of a new shipment before the end of the week. With any luck, for those of us who ordered and have been waiting since September should have an early Christmas next week.

Will Onkyo/Integra address the issue of audio drop outs when watching cable/sat programs? When going from digital audio to analog or vice versa (commercials) there is a 2-3 second dropout. My Anthem AVM 30, Pioneer 74txvi and Denon 3802 did not do this with my SA 8000/8300 TW cable boxes.

The 905 I had had this issue. It was not a huge issue for me as I watch mostly HD in DD. But would be nice if this problem is addressed in the new Onkyo/Integra units released.

Bill

My SACD collection, watch it grow and my wallet shrink ;-).

Denon 4311 (in preamp mode), Parasound 2100, Boston Acoustics A7200 amp, Oppo BDP-103, Consonance CD120, Panasonic TC-P60GT50 plasma, Panamax 5100EX, Salk Song Towers, Song Center, ADS 300C (surrounds) and two Rythmik F12SEs.

You really gotta be careful when you play around with the combination+On/standby buttons. I found that out the hard way when one combination (forgot which one) erased all my saved settings. The display read "clear". Anyway, I had to re-do audyssey calib and all input-output assignments.
Adk - Since your unit is yet to arrive, you may not need the FW update.
Bill - I've experienced the audio drop out you are talking about. But it happens very rarely. It happened just twice so far within the five days I've had it. But it sure would be nice if they fix this issue in the next FW release.

I will plug it in today when I have time and post the firmware numbers. It is sitting on the floor in my office right now.

I don't know when I will sneak it into the house and swap it with my 72txv and see if the wife notices.

Talk about mission impossible You're half way there man! You have cabinet with doors? If she does notice something tell her she crazy, it's the same one. I am pretty sure you haven't notice her new Jimmy Choo boots, or Prada Bag..

This is interesting. I did some testing and Pure mode anyway seems to use the equalizer. I am not sure about direct mode but it is disabled.

This seems a bit odd, but I think it is true.
