Apparently Onkyo has only shipped about TEN of the 885's and have literally hundreds on backorder...

Yes, as we have discussed in these voluminous AVSForum threads, the Onkyo and Onkyo Pro electronics have TWO year warranties (I said the website was wrong!). Many items, such as DVD players have ONE year warranties.

Integra and Integra Research offer THREE year warranties up and down their product lines (including DVD players, etc).

I'd grabbed the Integra manual from an earlier post, but having the one specifically for the 885 is very nice. Thanks, E!!

Maybe, but I printed the web site. Since it is published, they should have to honor it, otherwise, this is false advertising. That said, the likelyhood of having a warranty problem after 2 years is slim. I bought mine with AMEX, so I get the extra year anyway.

I really don't understand this. Most companies do a big initial build for a product's release. But yes, it really seems as if they're starting out with a trickle, and then will ramp up. But I do suppose the good thing is that they get a few units out there, get some positive comments going, and then the buzz builds. I suppose that Onkyo/Integra are lucky that there really isn't any competition to these pre/pros yet, otherwise a lot of people wouldn't wait and would simply buy a competitor's unit.

If it's not worth waiting until the last minute to do, then it's not worth doing.

I LOVE HOW everyone wants to assume Integra is lying about parts differances...if YOU DO BELIEVE THAT, WHY SUPPORT A COMPANY THAT LIES TO IT'S CONSUMERS?

Seeking a speaker recomendation? Compare for yourself or be swayed by others who hear differantly, or by marketing, or just save time and get the cheapest , nicest looking, or smallest.

I think you may be taking this too seriously

Because I like the product, does not mean endorse all their marketing and sales channel choices.

Hell, I have no idea what "hand selected parts" mean. I am merely poking fun at the language used. Most people assumed that hand select means better but you can select inferior parts with your hands

BTW, No mention is made about performance differences, in fact there are none shown in their published specs.

No....No...That is the place you'll find the boat anchor from the people who are always on the "Why you don't need HDMI1.3" thread. Yep....I see a Receiver with two HDMI 1.1 connectors on it

Sorry, seeing as how it's been discussed here quite a bit, I just thought you were intoning that there wasn't any possiblility of a differance.

No, but specs on many pieces of CE gear read the same and there are still differances in SQ. Most published manufacturers specs in CE are inadequate at showing anything other than a glaring deficiancy, which is therefor either manipulated so as not to draw attention to itself, not published at all, or not truely indicative of a real problem when placed in context, and honestly, most commonly used specs aren't that hard to achieve.

Hmmmmm, lets see...... We have a company that called a few of their past products futureproof by being hardware/card upgradeable and did so even by running ridiculous Nostradamus ads saying that. And then they basically let the products rot and offered no real upgrades except for a few new radio cards. And before that, you had some other so called futureproof products sold by them also, that were more or less false ads/statements as well. So it's not like the company is not well versed as far making false claims and even lying, as they have done so on other ocasions about many things.

They burned me on my RDC 7. They did have a Ultra II upgrade, but I would have to send it away for 2 weeks and pay shipping costs so I did not bother. In my system, no Preamp = no TV

I remember when PC's first had replaceable CPUs and back then you could never really replace them because of the memory requirements. Recently, dual core processors came out an I put one in and it was great!
So, you never know. I will be happy if they provide firmware upgrades.

I discussed firmware updates with my dealer and got him to agree that any firmware update would be made available to me even if Onkyo *required* the dealer to do the update.

At bit of history here: I did have a Sony TAE9000ES and at first the firmware updates were bootlegged on the Internet. Eventually, Sony released them directly. Historically, the Japanese manufacturers have been a bit squeamish about user firmware updates, but I think that is changing.

Remember...as my friend who is a Integra dealer say "Two weeks means WE DON'T KNOW" They will tell you two weeks and then, they will get it in the next day.

Question, did they tell you Two Weeks....because that is the end of the month?
