I'm in Central CA. Where are you sending yours and what do they indicate the turn around time to be? Did you have to contact Pioneer for authorization first or did the service company handle that?

Ive been talking with Gerry at Paradyme in Sacramento. I was going to drive it up last Saturday and he said they would do same day service, so I dont expect it to take that long. As for the authorization in the past the service company has handled that but I will call Pioneer again this morning double check. Paradyme quoted 80$ + shipping, Im good with that as long as I get the correct (all) updates.

Same day service is worth a good drive; Sacremento is about three hours for me. I drove to southern Ca. last time, I have a daughter who lives there, and had it done by Bestec.

Shipping my receiver off and waiting a couple of weeks for return just isn't in the cards for me. My next receiver will surely be able to update the firmware at home.

Good news... I called Pioneer this morning and got an authrization letter emailed to me in like 2 hours, which I forward to Paradyme. Also Gerry tells me that Pioneer will cover 15$ for shipping.

Do you know if there are other service centers in NorCal besides Paradyme? I'm in San Jose. If Paradyme is the only one I don't really mind the drive but something closer is obviously preferable.

I called Pioneer this morning but I forgot to write down my serial number so all I got was a case opened for now. I'd have to call back with my serial number before I can get an authorization letter.

Yes, there is one in San Francisco, but I can't remember their name. Go on the Pioneer website and do service dealer locator search and it should come up with, if I remember, two in the Bay area. Myself, I just don't want to leave it for a week or longer if avoidable, so I've got my ears open for those dealers who'll do it same day. Let me know what you find out please.

I found one in SF (ART'S TV SERVICE CENTER, INC.) and another in Concord (PROFESSIONAL VIDEO ENGINEERING). I'll give both a call tomorrow once I get my authorization. Like you, I want same day service if possible.

How long does it typically take to receive the authorization letter? What method is it delivered by? Snail mail or electronically? I opened my ticket on Tuesday, early PST, but haven't received any form of communication from Pioneer since then. I was told, that the case would be forwarded to the department that generates the authorization letters, and that I should see something within 24-48 hours.

I was able to get my letter was delivered by email in a couple of hours. When I called Pioneer I told the service rep that I had already shipped my unit so he took all the info and had the letter to me in no time. I was dealing with a warranty service rep.

he can help you with the file. How-to-do is pretty straightforward once you can access the service menu in receiver. A number of us SC-09 owners have just done this, including the rs-232 updates. DSP flash is done by CD-R but there are some DVD players that won't work. He may have the instructions for the 92/94 or some can possibly help you by improvising on the SC directions.

Also, I strongly emphasize this - anyone considering or trying to update firmware yourself -

You do so at your own risk.

If something happens & it goes pear-shaped, you can't blame the person you got the file from or anyone trying to help. Pioneer didn't make these user-friendly to do, but it's not hard if you are PC literate. If you aren't PC literate, comfortable updating a PC BIOS or even burning CD's, my advice is don't try it! Take it to a service center instead. It's not as simple as putting a disc in a player & hitting play to update it's firmware. But if you are willing to access the service menu and choose the item to be updated, it's not hard.

I have the 92TXH and would be great to get the files and do the cd update for the DSP firmware.

Got the cd update file from Hkan and even though it kept DSP at 1.003 it did change the firmware file 2.012 to 2.013 and no more DTS bomb happening with Star Wars!! F**K YA!!

I've never had mine update. It it worth the hassle? As I posted before my sound is better in DTS or Dolby digital rather than Dolby HD or DTS HD, any comments?

Thanks for Hkan, I have my 92 updated to 2.013 firmware for DSP1. Mine is previously updated once by an authorized repair center a few years back. So, my DSP1 firmware is 2.004. It worked fine until recently. First there are audio drop outs in a few recent discs. Then glitches in Transformer 3 Dolby TrueHD 7.1 track makes it unwatchable until I turn on my BD player decoding. The new 2.013 firmware seems to have resolved both issues.

This process is much easier than my last update. I had to disconnect everything and carry the receiver to repair shop. Waited for over a week to get it back and hook everything back again.

Could someone please clarify what's the difference between 2.012 and 2.013 for my 94? Are they different or are they the same firmware? I have the 2.012 version.

the newer FW is supposed to fix some of the problems decoding DTS-Master Audio on certain titles that cause glitches & loud pop sounds in the speakers. Titles that had the "bomb" (as its called) include Bridge over River Kwai. Star Wars glitches may also be fixed.

It fixed my issues with Star Wars and that pain in the ass "bomb"

Well Paradyme botched it... I asked for 2.013 and what did they give but 2.012. Oh well... I got it all taken care of now.

Can you tell me if 2.012 gives you back surround (full 6.1 0r 7.1 surround) with any of the Star Wars discs using bitstream?

Bestec was not aware of 2.013 and is looking into it.

^^^ Was told 2.013 firmware originated at Pioneer Japan. It will take some communication between Pioneer North America and the repair centres to get this latest firmware. However, the repair centres just have to contact their head office contact at Pioneer and they will eventually receive the 2.013 firmware.
