Hey guys,

I'm looking to pick up a new receiver in the $500 or so range. Preferably, with a couple of HDMI inputs.

Any suggestions?

There's a Tweeter near where I work having a clearance sale on the PIONEE VSX80TXV and PIONEER VSX81TXV. Are these any good? If not, anything better in the same price range?

Thanks.

Thanks. I'll definitely look into that.

Any opinions on the Pioneer Elite receivers? Are they a good deal on clearance for that much?

I have been looking in the same price range and have been hearing good things about the Onkyo 605. May be worth taking a look.

i would recommend the onkyo 605. has 2 hdmi inputs and some very advanced audio features. it had an MSRP of $600 when it came out a few months ago, but if you go to techbargains.com and search for it, click through the link, and then put the silver one in your basket, it can be had for $386 + tax, free shipping and no financing till 2009 with a CC card. Hope you read this before the thread gets locked for my price talk. Just tryin to help ya out .

I've been looking around too and I just ordered the Onkyo 605. The HDMI ports are 1.3 compliant and it does HDMI upconversion from other sources. The only downfall I heard was that it actually down converts component 1080i to 720p when if you use the HDMI as the final video output. 90W per channel isn't super powerful but it should be all you need. On top of that I think its the cheapest receiver that current has built-in Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding.

The Sony 3200ES or DG1000 on ebay is probably your best bet. The two models are nearly identical. I just bought the DG1000, and it exceeded my expectations. Very clean, tight, powerful sound and very easy to set-up and operate. A steal at $500 or less.
