I still think you need some knowledge/analytical software to get the best from these systems but the ability to set something like this up and then simply sit back and enjoy without forever second guessing the setup, is something I really welcome.

There's a very good reason for a preamp/processor to label an input "Blu-ray DVD": all Blu-ray Disc players also play DVD discs. Since I play both types of discs in my Blu-ray player, and indeed own far more DVDs than Blu-ray Discs at this point, "Blu-ray DVD" on the display is actually preferable to just "Blu-ray". On my own Anthem pre/pro, which has configurable input names, I've entered BD/DVD for the name of my Blu-ray Disc player.

Well, we take another approach. We label the sources as Oppo, Sony, Denon, Cable, etc. This works fine for me and the other half of we has no doubt about which box is selected.

But you'll be lost if you have 2 boxes from the same brand .

Here's a new processor from Sherbourn due in Sep 09 not on the list:

Info

It appears to be sourced from the same MFR as the Emotiva. The back panel looks identical to the UMC-1 with the addition of balanced outs. Not sure if the back panel pic is accurate as the balanced outs aren't even listed in the specs. No word on pricing.

True but I usually take care for that not to happen. Of course, I once had Oppo 1 and Oppo 2 with the first on top.

So $2750 for a UMC-1 that has balanced connections?

I plan on getting the UMC-1. The UMC-1 seems like steal after seing these comparisons. The PT-7020 includes a "Faroudja Cinema Format Coversion" video enhancer in its features list. Not sure how much that would add to the cost...

Yup, Integra has a new line-up of receivers and processors which should start shipping next month.

Its been really slow in the industry since my last update.

I am going to do a CEDIA 09 announcement roundup. I expect to update post #1 and the tables over the next couple of days.

I haven't seen an Onkyo equivalent of the 40.1, closest is obviously the 5507. It would be interesting to know if the 40.1 is considerably cheaper than the 5507, could fill a nice gap in the market as a feature rich processor for those not fussed about 9.2 channels/balanced.

Yes, it is significantly cheaper as the 5507 seems to be the equivalent of the 80.1, not the 40.1.

yes, the 40.1 msrp is 1200, the 80.1 is double at 2300 msrp. Not sure of the 5507 msrp, but seems to be a few hundred less than the 80.1.

any online integra dealers?

I'm not sure this is the right thread, and if it is not, I apologize in advance, but I'm looking for a 5.1 pre-amp/audio processor that passes all the "good stuff" prevalent these days on Blu-Ray discs, with at least two HDMI outs. I don't need any video processing and I don't need any power supply. I've had an old Sherwood AVP 9080R for many years, and it has served me well at a great price, but it is now sadly outdated as I step gingerly into the HD home theater world.

Is there such an animal any more, at an equivalent bargain like the Sherwood? Seems to me from cruising AVS and other places that separates are getting pretty scarce, at least at the lower-priced levels...

Yup. I was hoping it was less "comprehensive" than it appears to be. Apparently, you can't pay less than 2 grand for what I'm looking for.

So, I decided to look for something else. A receiver, and bypass the scaler and amp. Sherwood R-872. Less than half of the least expensive pre-pro on this list, and passes the audio I want it to pass. We'll see how it goes...

The Integra 40.1 may be of interest. There is a dedicated thread on it where you can get more information.

Note that the balanced out version has the label "PT-7020-A" on the left side of the photo, which is not mentioned anywhere else. The spec sheets show the PT-7020 as unbalanced (RCA).

The press release now claims Jan 2010 availability.

I assume Cirrus room correction is the standard PEQ built in solution from Cirrus.
