Cary 11a will now be a standalone pre/pro with a single HDMI 1.3 input and integrated HBR decoder.

With the multi channel indicator in lit up on the Rotel's display all 6 speakers and my subs were pumping out sound. So the answer is "yes" the Rotel will accept a 6.1 (or 7.1) multi channel PCM via HDMI and know what to to with it as long as the disc is encoded with it.

this is really sad

so we are basically sitting here waiting for one of these higher end units to get their act together sometime in 2008, or go with the Onkyo/Integra option (hard to find, poor analog section), or do nothing???

ridiculous!

The new Cary Cinema 11a is available for pre-order and due out in the end of January. It is the same unit as their current Cinema 11 with the addition of 2 HDMI ins and 1 out. It will have no video capability if any kind, strictly pass through and will handle all of the HDMI 1.3 high resolution audio formats. This should be a great solution for people looking for higher 2 channel capacity than the Integra/Onkyo.

Yes, I am looking at this quite closely... although the difficulty Cary has had in communicating the status of 11 vs 11a vs 11v is a bit cautionary. And the HDMI 1.3 chip situation causes one to wonder about the date.

Why worry about the new cary if you only want a better 2ch section?

The TAC will be 15k!

"TacT has been quick to adopt HDMI 1.3, so the new TCS pre-pro can handle Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc."

Eric-Thank you very much for this thread. Keep up the great work. This is also exactly what I'm looking for: just switching (although even that is a question I have, see here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=972497), but with MC LPCM input capability. I don't need any of the video stuff the Onkyo/Integra have. I think I've decided on the NAD. But it will be curious to see what the future brings. I do expect one from Outlaw too, although I don't think I've seen any rumblings there yet. Also be nice to see one from Parasound.

If it's not worth waiting until the last minute to do, then it's not worth doing.

KevinVision 7.1 ... Something old and something new :-)

Krell has been very silent on the issue even to dealers. I do not believe this has changed.

You might consider using a seperate switch from the SSP, and just use the HDMI in/out for audio in and On Screen Display output.

I use the Lumagen Radiance XD for switching and video processing.

The issue with most SSPs right now is they are missing HDMI 1.3 and high bit rate (HBR) decoders. This means you cannot listen to DTS-HD MA soundtracks. Whether this matters to you or not is personal preference of course.

PS: Debate on this topic should be directed to the "why you don't need HDMI 1.3" thread.

I wish that Pioneer would remove the pre/pro from the amps in their new top end SC-09TX receiver -- the circuitry of the amps and pre/pro is kept separate so it should be easily possible for them produce an outstanding pre/pro, but Pioneer seems to have no interest in doing so...

Would you want this so as to have a cheaper price or do you think it will make a sonic impact?

We know why this is.

My reasons are two fold for this "potential" pre/pro that would do everything but fetch a beer and would be based upon Pioneer Elite's top receiver. Removing the amps would (A) reduce the price and (B) allow me to use my amps that I prefer for 7.1 surround and stereo.

We do? We know it or speculate on it? I have heard many theories in this forum, but noone has authoritatively answered it AFAIK.

So which claimed cause is true?
  1. HDMI chip supply is inadequate/unavailable
  2. HDMI chip supply is controlled by Japanese AVR companies due to volume committments
  3. Vinci Labs is no longer developing/producing, impacting SSP vendors who rebadge the Titan
  4. SSP manufacturers cannot afford the HDMI 1.3 license fee
  5. SSP manufacturers are waiting for the format war to settle out
  6. SSP manufacturers can't afford the DTS/Dolby license fees for DTS-HD MA and TrueHD

I prefer we not speculate in this thread. There are many other threads started for that. However, if you know and can back it up, please, I am all ears.

Well, other than an Emotiva rumour, no announcements from CES seen today. Its starting to look like this CES is a bit of a bust for updates from the SSP manufacturers.

Eric,
I haven't been able to find any comments posted that mention any new Krell CES announcements. Since the Krell S-1000 is supposed to be upgradeable, I'm still hoping they will announce the S-1000 DolbyHD, DTS HD decoding via HDMI update. Has Krell announced anything new at CES yet?

At least the Marantz AV8003 looks promising.

The Mac line is all rebadged -- from what? I realize that D&M Holdings owns Marantz and Denon in addition to McIntosh, but do not understand what Mac rebadges other than their music servers which are based on Escient Music Servers (which McIntosh owns). IF Mac was rebadging their pre/pros, they would have a new one out soon instead of waiting another year or two for the MX137.
