Does anyone know if Denon intends to release a pre/pro in the price range of the 4 and 3 lines?

I would very much like to have their top of the line unit but the price tag is a little bit steep.....

All the best,

Michael

Not that I have heard. I think they intend you to buy one of their AVRs. You could use one of those as a pre/pro.

Marantz has the same BD players but they have a 3 year warranty and their pre/pro is much more affordable.

there is one due yes, the wait for the avp was a while away so imagine the wait for something like this similar. denon no doubt want to make it faultless as the avp is

ps originally denonjeffs comment was it ws based on the 4308, believe since I have read it will be based on 4310/4810. leave it longer and am sure it will be based on a 4311/4811 or is that a 4312/4812

ps the marantz someone mentioned be aware it runs an inadequate processing stage, cant do audyssey with hdaudio bitstreamed and plus the audyssey it runs is old tech. also dac wise it uses a 8 ch dac on a chip, kinda like cheapo players use, even the marantz players run better discrete dac configs. the marantz pre-pro was rushed on the market in the early days. my suggestion wait up till a replacement is launched otherwise some better options around in the onkyo integras at the present in the pricepoint below the denon avp.

If all that is true about the Marantz, I am very surprised. I don't care about audyssey but a single DAC chip in a $2,000+ pre/pro is not something to get excited over. I have not heard the unit myself but had heard some good reports about sound but also some bugs which is not uncommon at all with the new HDMI pre/pros.

Do you have a link about the Marantz using a single DAC? Also do you have a link about the new Denon pre/pro like a pre release info? Was it officially announced?

yes all that is true, you might not care for audyssey but many do. and it is only equipped with an old defunct version. and yep it does run a single 8ch dac on a chip same as the 7002 and 8002 avrs which yep is not worth getting excited about especially when most players including all players in the marantz range run better more elaborate dac configurations and for good reason.. scratching my head to try think of one other current pre-pro running a 8ch dac on a chip. the marantz was basically rushed to market with inadequate dac and processing, and really is a bit long in the tooth now.

re links on the dacs marantz utilise and more info on the denon pre-pro. search is your friend. there is a link on this forum. listing dacs used by various avrs/pre-pros. also search and you will find info re the denon pre-pro which was a bit of info posted by some forum members. plus there is the podcast by denonjeff outlining it would be based on a 4308.

Search the Web for "denon avp-cix". There are some preliminary specs that floated around not too long ago. I really hope they follow up on this one as well...I would be interested since I currently use my AVR-3808CI only as a pre-pro anyway.

Hello everyone, and thanks for your opinions. I am doing some research on processors for a friend of mine. Recently we stumbled upon Emotiva products, specifically their UMC-1. This will be used in a home theater environment, where music plays just as important a role as movies. Sources will be PS3, HTPC /w bitstreaming BRD playback, and other standard media sources.

My question is this.. The price on the UMC-1 is awesome.. but does its quality rival that of an onkyo for $2k?
Also, would you think about using Emotiva's USP-1 preamp for music along side of the UMC-1 processor, or would there not be any significant difference.

Im assuming the USP-1 will only benefit analog sources, correct?

"The satisfaction of a great price will be overshadowed by the bitterness of poor quality."

More details about Outlaw's move here.

Their comments about the Trinnov Optimizer have certainly piqued my interest.

I owned a UMC-1 for about 2 weeks before I returned it. It has to many bugs atm. Emotiva is currently working on a FW update to address the issues. I was pretty impressed with it capabilities. It definately deserves a look if/when they get the bugs worked out.

Hey guys, I racked up the Ada suite 7.1 last night but I have not had time to use all the features yet, like EQ, but I ran some demos last night to give it a go. First, this is a tweakers processor, not for someone who wants automatic setup. I am a tweaker and I have owned the Marantz 8003, denon DN-7100, and Denon avr 890. They are all very good but the difference to me and always has been is bass. The Ada just has more dynamic bass, not spl, but bass that surprises you. The tone is also neutral where the others sound more higher pitched if that makes any sense. That could be from the weight of the bass. The detail is more than I can remember but I did not have all of these side by side. I know I always compared the others to my Ada cinema reference(older 5.1) and always liked the sound of the cinema reference better but I like the suite 7.1HD better than the reference. Same sound or tone as the reference but with more detail and separation of the channels(as expected with DTS-hd and true HD).

But he said "near future." Maybe we'd better pin that down more precisely. This year? Next year? Year after that?

Let's say this year. Next year could be over a year and a half from now -- and who can say anything close to definitive over that kind of time horizon.

And also, to quote Keynes, 'in the long run, we're all dead'

Looks like another monster. I wonder if it uses the same single DAC as the AV8003.

probably make up in some way for its previous woes, but has anyone seen the minimilist display the thing has. might be ok for the 2ch amp they stolen that off but might be just a bit inadequate for some. others might just love its minimilist looks who knows !
