Then it was posted in error since all multichannel AVRs/processors with HDMI input, beginning with v1.0, will do multichannel PCM. In other words, if it will do HBR, it must also do MPCM

No that is not what it says. HBR implies MPCM. MPCM does not imply HBR.

Man... it certainly seems like it's been a long time since any manufacturer releases or announcements. Have we been missing things or are things just that quiet?

While reading my just arrived Home Theater, I noted an ad from Sherbourn presenting their new PT-7020C4 pre/pro with all of the requisite bells and whistles. No idea of date of availability but if they are taking our ads, it shouldn't be too long.

Sherbourn has been identified with some great values, especially in amplification in the past, and typically undersell their competition by a very significant margin. They also announced their 7 channel 350wpc into 8 ohms power amp, the PA 7-350 in the same ad.

Based on the pre pro's appearance looks like it might have been sourced from Anthem, but that would not seem to fit into the "value" platform that Sherbourn has always been associated with.

Here is a link from their web page, where it simply states - coming soon.

John

Not sourced from Anthem, afaik, and not as inexpensive as their initial line.

Seeing as how Sherbourn is now owned by Emotiva, I really doubt that they will be rebranding anything under their name made for them by Anthem. I'd wager from here on out, anything in the Sherbourn lineup will be based on either a older Sherbourn design, with some of newer stuff being possibly designed and made by Emotiva's supplier in China.

Decent price, but I'm surprised it doesn't have balanced outputs. Is this typical for rotel?

Seems that way just like they have dropped Class A/B multi channel amps. I personally don't want XLR outputs but a Class A/B RMB-1075 replacement would be nice.

I like XLR because they lock in nicely and look cool, which is pretty lame reason, but I'm sticking with it.

Are they using digital amps? I heard they were using the Bang and Oulfson units, is this correct?

They have been focused on D amps for a while. Based on B&O ICE technology. Never heard their amps though.
