Hopefully they're a little behind on their paperwork, as I downloaded the PDFs on the side and they're still labeled SSP80 and SSP100. The web pages note MPCM, but, the PDF are much fuzzier on the details.

If this is the wrong thread feel free to nuke this post..

The cheapest and "best" Reciever that support PCM Via HDMI and has a 5.1 output i can feed to my amps.

Of course it would have to pass the video on to the PJ.

Is there such a thing and will have problems with:
HDMI 1.3 from the PS3 been passed correctly? I´m thinking 24p etc..
Video + Audio Sync?

Hope you can help me..

Love!

There is a separate thread you should look at: AVRs that support HDMI Audio MPCM or HBR Decoders.

The main forum is filled with requests for "cheapest and best", so use the search function there or start a new thread.

Marantz has posted the preliminary bits about their Pre/Pro, the "AV8003 Networking AV Preamp/Processor". Just a basic summary at the top, but, some good pictures of the unit. Must say one of the better clean classic lines in the pre/pro garb.

Emotiva announced that it is taking preorders for the UMC-1.

There is a AVS discussion thread.

Delivery is "Summer 2008".

Bryston says they were starting the design cycle on the SP3 SSP in February. Early discussion suggests audio only, video switching, HDMI 1.3 with 4 IN/2 OUT and HBR decoder support.

Bryston notes in post #8 they will not be getting the decoder chips until April, suggesting they are using Cirrus Logic DSP and are impacted by Cirrus' shipping delays.

Bryston VP James Tanner indicates that "we are at least a year away from a finished SP3". So initial release expectation would be 1Q09.

Classe Audio is apparently now taking preorders on the SSP-800 for delivery in May. MSRP $8,000, MPCM only. A HBR decoder upgrade may be available at the end of the year. Apparently this upgrade is awaiting the DSP card provider that Classe uses to release a new HBR capable DSP card. The SSP-800 is rumoured to use the TI Aureus DSP.

There is an AVS post indicating that release had been delayed to late June but I have not been able to verify that.

I hope manufactures pick-up the pace with releasing A/V processors that will handle DTS-HD Master Audio processing. Next week my Sony PS3 will have the v2.30 update and there isn't any A/V processor to decode it! Come on manufactures, get with it!

Uh, just about every prepro out there will handle it - isn't the PS3 going to output the DTS-MA as PCM, just like it does TrueHD?

Well, looks like Lyngdorf Audio is putting their D-1 processor on hold:
April 2, 2008:
The Home Theater market is at present a very dynamic market and we at Lyngdorf Audio have decided not to launch the previously announced D-1 / TDA-2300 multichannel system due to the fact that the price point demanded by the market for our brand, could not be reached at this point in time.
Now was that too high, or too low

They tried and tried, but they just couldn't make it expensive enough without putting a brick of gold in it

Maybe they'll offer RoomPerfect to other companies for their processors.

The PS3 will not pass DTS MAHD as bitstream so it won't matter if the processor decodes DTS HD or not. But the PS3 will decode it internally (after 15 April) and pass it as LPCM so any processor that can accept multi-channel PCM over HDMI will be able to play it.

So at least as far as the PS3 is concerned, internal decoding of True-HD and DTS-HD is of no use.

I understand this completely - and it's fantastic news. I'm having trouble understanding how the different receivers will handle this though. My HK AVR-347 is only capable of 5.1 over MPCM over hdmi according to the chart. Does this mean that the 7.1 of the DTS MAHD etc will just be played over 5.1 speakers?

Edit: I'm still interested in understanding how this would be handled by a receiver. However, I've been informed in my AVR's official thread that the HK AVR-247/347 now support 7.1 MPCM via HDMI after updating to the latest firmware.

Thats great that Classe is willing to take our money now, without providing a firm ship date.

Sorry, but audio companies have been notorious about release dates, especially where MPCM HDMI is involved. I wouldn't do a pre-order unless Classe gives a firm ship date.

Good luck to those that do though. I am curious to hear about the SQ of this unit.

Unless I am mistaken, they can not charge you until they ship the product. At least most credit card companies have policies against companies charging you before shipping.

I know I preoder all the time from Amazon, but they will never charge my account (credit card or bank account) until the day it actually ships.

You are mistaken...

On big items, or things considered custom order, it is very common for a dealer to charge you up front. When I spoke to the local Classe dealer, he wanted payment up front for the SSP-800. Some dealers request 50% up front. It depends on the item and the dealer.

Darrell,

When you spoke to your dealer about the SSP-800 preorder, what did he say about shipping dates?

I hear what you are saying about ship dates. In Classe case, they have a better chance of making their date simply because the are not using a next gen DSP - they went with the previous generation OEM DSP card. So they are not caught in the swirl of Cirrus Logic like many others and likely have much less integration to do.

But of course that begs the next question, which is when and how much is the DSP upgrade, which they have said they will announce "before launch".

Eric,

The local dealer called me a couple days ago and told me they are taking pre-orders and that he expects them to ship in late may. I didn't ask when I could actually have it in my hands.

He said he was going to send me some literature on the unit, so I should get that today or tomorrow I expect.

Why are you concluding they are integrated? My reading of this was that a new 5ch amp is being launched at the same time as the pre/pro, just like what Denon did with the POA-HDA1 and AVP-HDA1, and Marantz is doing with the MM8003 and AV8003.

Ahhhh -- that makes good sense -- guess I was shocked that Sim would use an all-in-one-box approach. Sorry for my confusion.

An article in AVRev is worth noting: Next Gen, HDMI 1.3 Receivers Slow To Market – Do You Really Need Them?.

Of particular interest to those who answer that question "yes" is this:
Quote:

One notable receiver manufacturer tells AVRev.com that they were promised “production quantities” of the most popular Cirrus Logic chips in April of 2007 but didn’t receive them until March of 2008. The all-important firmware was reportedly “99 percent done” which can easily be translated into, not-ready-for-prime-time at this date". ... it will be August of 2008 before a full complement of “next gen receivers” will be available for purchase.

So it looks like the Cirrus chipset availability issue is starting to resolve. Perhaps we will have more to look at by the summer as a result.
