Has anyone had to clean the relay contacts before and if so, could you please post how you did it?

Thanks.

*Ethernet IMG I200809050721
*Ethernet BL B200707020733
*Ethernet CNE C20080905
*Ethernet WEB W200809050808
*Ethernet MAC N/A
GUI FPGA CONFIG A080719A
GUI PRG 00007621
GUI DAT 37750020
DGTL FPGA 00.71

After I upgraded my Denon 3808 just a couple of days ago it says that I have the latest firmware. But when I try to go to Add New Feature I can see that Registration = "Not Registered" and I can see Audyssey Dynamic EQ, Audyssey Dynamic Volume and HDMI Control. I just want to upgrade the HDMI control so that I can enable pass through. I have followed the instructions in this thread however most of the links provided are now broken (maybe because it was long ago 2008). Can anyone help me with this please? Btw, I'm in Australia.

Thanks.

Did you have any luck with this? I'm in Australia, and I want to enable the audyssey eq stuff

I am wondering if New Feature update is purely software update. I called to Denon and the person I was talking to told me that this update is not available anymore and required some hardware upgrade for avr 3808ci. I am not sure if that it is case. Can anyone confirm? Thank you in advance!

If you mean the upgrade that enabled Dyn Vol, Dyn Eq, CEC, etc., then no it didn't require any hardware update, at least not on my 3808. Not sure if they are still making it available, but I know a couple of people have said they've gotten it in the last 6 mo. or so.

I was referring to upgrade adding the following features:
Audyssey Dynamic Volume
Audyssey Dynamic EQ
CEC HDMI Protocol
Rhapsody
Sirius Radio

Thank you for your reply. I am wondering if you needed to bring the receiver to the Denon service to do this upgrade and if you had to pay for it. Maybe, the dealer did it but you weren't informed about all process which I doubt. I just wanted to verify.

The Denon's representative said about this upgrade that it is not possible to do on your own because it requires to install hardware and software. Now, I am thinking that he just did not want to deal with it. I am not sure what is the other way to get this upgrade if Denon is saying it is not available anymore. Any ideas?

The upgrade did NOT require any hardware work, nor did it require taking the AVR to a dealer or service facility. It was done totally over the internet (wired connection only of course). At the time I bought it ($100, around 2008) you needed to provide the sn or mac layer address (can't remember which) and then the unit would validate to a server at Denon that would download the upgrade, all software.

I could only guess at the motivation of the Denon staff, but have heard of others being told the upgrade is not any longer available only to hear of others that were able to get it. I believe it is no longer being charged for.

I'd suggest going to the "Official Denon 3808" thread,

The "Official" Denon AVR-3808CI Thread

and searching the later pages to find references from people that appeared to get the upgrade recently.

Thank you again. I'll do it.

Does this update is really worth to be installed? Do you feel you have a huge advantages for your day by day applications with having this upgrade?

Yes. I don't ever use CEC as my entire system is controlled by Harmony Remote programming. I rarely use Dyn Vol, but it can be useful in the evening. Dyn EQ does make a big difference for movie content but I do trim back the surrounds a couple of db and the center up a couple of db. I only have Audyssey MultiEQ XT.

Would you mind listing the steps you took to get the upgrade? I just installed a chromecast and would love the CEC feature. Thanks.

I found that the best way is to communicate with customer support over the internet.

1. Create account with Denon Customer Support - http://denon.custhelp.com/
2. Go into the receivers menu and do the following to retrieve the Upgrade ID.

Manual Setup
Option Setup
Add New Feature

You will see the Upgrade ID appear on your TV.
3. Request politely for enabling access to the upgrade and provide the Upgrade ID.
4. They will enable you access
5. Go into the receivers menu and do the following to retrieve the Upgrade ID.
Manual Setup
Option Setup
Add New Feature

Initiate upgrade.

This is pretty much what you'll need to do. I hope it helps.

I actually downgraded my receiver to AVR 3808 and added apple tv3 for airplay. Do you think x4100 or x5200 will bring you something new that you really will be using? The sound quality will not necessarily be better.

Upgrading to either the X4100W or X5200W would add the following:
(1) Audyssey XT32 offers much better audio quality then only XT on the 3808.
(2) Sub EQ HT adds dual sub control
(3) Dolby Surround upmixer which replaces DD PLII, DD PLIIx, and DD PLIIz
(4) Dolby Atmos
(5) HDMI audio to Zone 2
(6) HDMI inputs - 8
(7) HDMI outputs - 3 to include Zone 2

I really hope it all will justify the price difference. I maybe uneducated well enough to not value all of these additions. I learned that if you play a little bit with EQ settings then it will make the sound you'll want. I did the software upgrade for 3808ci and did not find any significant improvements on a sound quality with these upgrades. I hope that additions that are offered with newer models are real step up. I'd like to find out if that really that better because I really interested in sound quality improvements only.
