I plan I buying 4 Polk r150s, a CSR, and a VELODYNE VX-10C sub based on the recommendations of this forum. I use a ps3 for playback on a 720p projector. I was wondering if with the speakers I'm planning to buy, will I hear the difference from lossless audio in a onkyo SR-605 vs lossy in the SR-505? Right now I using computer speakers, with no surround sound, so I'm not able to tell if its worth it or not? Also is the VELODYNE VX-10C sub a good match with the speakers?

Yes, its worth buying the 605 over the 505. If cost is a concern, there are several refurb options...

Are the polk r150s good enough for front speakers, or should upgrade it to a better pair(floorstanding speakers are too ugly)? Is this a good set-up for music(mainly classical) and movies?

The 505 will not accept audio over HDMI, it's HDMI video only, so you won't be able to use it with HD audio so the 605 would be the way to go.

As far as your specific question on sound quality difference between the receivers, probably not.

The VX-10 is a good choice at it's price point, if you can step up to $200 plus shipping imo the Bic H-100 is a much better choice and well worth the price difference.

The R150s are great speakers for their current price and you'd be hard pressed to find anything of better quality...they are going for a steal right now. However they are better choices just not at the price point.

If you wanted to go with the Floor R300 or R50s that outpost also has at a steal that would be a better choice imo but you don't want floor speakers, so unless your willing to up the budget quite a big the R150s are a great choice.

Well originally I ordered the Onkyo SR-800 HTiB for 300 than canceled it, so I do have a somewhat of a limit. I feel comfortable spending the least amount of money, so long as its a big upgrade from computer speakers. With $300 on the 605, and $200 on r150s,CSR, I would like to only spend around $100-200 on a sub. On ebay the Bic H-100 sales for 250 plus 50 for shipping which is probably too much.
