Without going to radioshack (25 minute drive for me each way) is there anyway to convert a regular pair of rca cables into y split patch cable? I'm sure I have at least 2 in the house, but I've got 3 huge boxes full of cables and it's like looking for a needle in a stack of needles. Can I just splice and tie them off together? Wondering what kind of signal loss would be involved.

Yes, you can do that, and I don't see any problems with it (assuming your soldering skills are decent.) You'll splice the right channels together, the left channels together, and all of the grounds together. I've done this before without any ill effects. Hope that helps!
