Ok, i have the sony bravia davhdx285 surround sound system and a pioneer vsx819 receiver. Today i hooked all the surround sound wires to the receiver, accept the sub woofer. The subwoofer is connected to the dvd player that came with the surround sound. I have an hdmi cable going from the dvd player to the receiver, but i am only getting sound from the sub. I cannot figure out how to get the speakers working. If anyone knows anything about this it would REALLY be appreciated. I am a noob to this stuff so forgive me for my knowledge.
-I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, i am new to the site.

1. Read the owner's manual for each component.

2. Disconnect the sub from the DVD player and connect it to the sub out jack on the receiver where it belongs.

3. Read the owner's manual for each component.

I have read the manuals and i am trying to plug my sub into the receiver(Pre out sub) but there is no where to plug into my sub. On the back of my subwoofer their is only the (+) (-) plug for the wire.

Your sub is not powered and the AVR, like all modern AVRs, works only with a powered sub. You need to get an amp for the sub or, more usefully, replace it with a modern powered sub.

Possibly. HTIB speakers often have proprietary configurations than make them incompatible with standard components. Get regular speakers.

You have a HTIB (home theatre in a box), the "dvd player" is your receiver.

Connect all the speakers to it (including the sub).

I would expect the hdmi out from the sony htib will have video only since it is going to handle the audio side of things itself.

No idea why you are trying to hook the pioneer into this setup..........well, maybe an idea but I don't think it's going to work unless the sony has preouts......

There are no stupid questions. Stupid answers on the other hand....that's a whole other story...........

Yea, i kind of realized that. The only thing is that my center, front right and left speakers were not long enough so i bought new ones. I tried taking the connectors off the previous wires that were too short and putting them on the new wire, but when i plug them into the dvd player, nothing happens with the 3 speakers.
