I can only mount my surround speakers for a 5.1 set-up on the rear wall and the couch (ear to wall distance) is only 1.5' from the rear wall. I am looking for a test disk that will play various forms of surround sound effects: ambiant like rain, etc. and discrete, like some one walking behind the listening position, fly-overs, etc........hopefully, all on one disk.

With this disk I would try various positions on the wall: directing straight at the listener, bouncing off the wall, bouncing off the ceiling, etc. and possibly trying bipoles vs monopoles vs tripoles (M&K)/multipoles (Axiom). I currently have a cheap pair of monopoles for the experiment.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Greg

If not, how about movie clips?

They're everywhere. Do you mean out of the ones you've found upon searching, which one should you get?

If you have SACD playback, I'd suggest Chesky's work. You know, it's actually quite obnoxious. However, with David Chesky, one can be assured a higher quality production doesn't exist. Either the AVS search tool, or Google, would offer many alternatives

Good luck

Jean Michel Jarre - Aero is quite good for testing 5.1. Each music track has surround sound effects before the music starts. Music is pretty good as well.

Sorry for picking up this old thread. I'm also looking for 5.1 testing CD or sound tracks. Can someone suggest free stuff?

Go to the dedicated theater design thread and look for the home theater demo disk by scuba steve

No subwoofer I've heard has been able to produce the bass I've experienced in the Corps!

Must..stop...buying...every bluray release...
