Just bought a new Onkyo NR-709 to replace my 10yr old Sony HTIB. Eventually plan on going with an Aperion 5.1 setup. Due to cost and complexity, I'm going to start with a 3.1 setup and purchase the rears later on down the road.

My living room where the HT is placed has dimensions of 15x40 with the living room area on the left side of the rectangle. The whole room is open, and also opens to a kitchen. Hardwood floors, 8ft ceilings. The 3.1 setup is easy enough to place, but I have no where to mount the rear speakers except for the ceiling. I'll take a picture this afternoon and get it up here - if you can visualize this problem, let me know what you think my options are. I plan on selling this house next summer so I will leave the wiring in place for the next homeowner. Towers for the rears worry me. They would be kinda in the way.
